Jensen Ackles Holds Nothing Back When Discussing Jessica Alba’s On-Set Behavior

While Jessica Alba isn’t currently booking work in blockbusters with any sort of regularity, just a decade or two ago, big Hollywood movies were her bread and butter. Alba appeared in a wide range of projects during her heyday, from Robert Rodriguez’s gory comic book film “Sin City” to Drew Barrymore romantic comedy “Never Been Kissed.” Before all that, though, Alba’s breakthrough role, at just 18 years-old, was as the lead in a James Cameron-created sci-fi TV series called “Dark Angel” (via IMDb). It was on the set of “Dark Angel,” even, that Alba began a relationship with her then 30 year-old co-star Michael Weatherly, referenced in an episode of Weatherly’s other popular series “NCIS” released around that time.

During its second season, “Dark Angel” introduced a character portrayed by Jensen Ackles, who at the time was another young, up-and-comer. Nowadays, Ackles is arguably best-known for starring in “Supernatural” for 15 seasons, before the series came to an end in 2020.

In an appearance on the podcast Inside of You released on January 18, Ackles spoke about what it was like to work with Alba on the set of “Dark Angel.” As it turns out, Ackles and Alba had something of a contentious working relationship with one another.

The Boys animated spinoff gets first clip and release date

img]

Another day, another new release date announcement! This time around, it’s The Boys Presents: Diabolical, the animated spinoff of Prime Video’s gory and darkly funny superhero show The Boys. Diabolical premieres on March 4, and looks like it has the same twisted DNA as the mothership series. Here’s the first clip, featuring a certain baby with laser-eye powers who should be familiar to fans of the series. Or is it a different baby with laser-eye powers? You never know with Vought.

Yup, in classic The Boys style, this baby lasers off the heads of a whole crew of Vought soldiers seemingly on accident, then gets distracted and chases a balloon, all while a harried scientist slips into the pile of gore. It’s almost jarring to see such a Wile E. Coyote tone given the piles of bloody eviscerated remains…but then, that feels like exactly the sort of thing The Boys would do.

Diabolical is an eight-part anthology series; each episode has a different creator and art style behind it. According to Amazon, these will be 12-14 minute “fun-size episodes,” which sounds both like a good time and cause to be nervous. This is The Boys we’re talking about, and we all know what its definition of “fun” is by now.

The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke is attached to the animated spinoff and has rounded up an impressive bunch of creatives to bring the series to life, including Garth Ennis (co-creator of The Boys comic with Darick Robertson), Eliot Glazer and Ilana Glazer (co-creators of Broad City), Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (executive producers of The Boys), Simon Racioppa (Invincible), Awkwafina (Nora From Queens), Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty), Ben Bayouth (Blark and Son), Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), and Aisha Tyler (Archer).

The Boys season 3 is “even more messed up” than previous seasons

Speaking of The Boys, TheWrap caught up with star Jack Quaid (Hughie Campbell) while he was out promoting his new movie Scream, and of course they had to sneak in a few questions about the Amazon superhero show. What does Jack Quaid think of The Boys season 3?

“I think this season is our best yet. I’m very biased obviously, but it’s a season that’s even more messed up than the ones we’ve done so far,” Quaid said. “There’s a lot of those signature messed up Boys moments.”

Considering all the messed up moments that have happened in The Boys so far, from laser-eye powers turning people into bloody pulp to someone literally getting their head crushed in during oral sex…we can only imagine what the show has in store this time around.

Quaid went on to talk a bit about what it was like working on this upcoming season.

I think we tackle a lot of new territory. I think you see our characters in places that you’ve never really seen them before. I’m just so excited for people to see it. That’s going to be awesome. I don’t know. I don’t know what else to say besides, I think I had the most fun shooting this season compared to the others because all of the actors now, and the crew, we’re just this big, huge family It just feels like second nature at this point and I love it. But I’m really proud of what we did and I can’t wait for people to see it.

The Boys season 3 will feature new characters like Soldier Boy, played by Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles:

The Boys Presents: Diabolical premieres March 4 on Prime Video, while The Boys mothership show launches its third season on June 3. Another live-action spinoff is also in the works, about a Vought superhero college, but there’s been no word on when that one’s coming yet.

6 shows like The Witcher to watch while you wait for season three Want a new sprawling, epic world to get obsessed with? Look no further

There’s no denying that The Witcher has breathed new life into the fantasy genre. The Netflix series starring Henry Cavill recently returned to screens for its second season and many viewers, ourselves included, didn’t waste a single second before getting stuck in.

MORE: See what the incredible cast of Netflix’s The Witcher look like out of costume

However, now begins the long wait for season three, which is fortunately already in the works. But what about in the meantime? Well, you’re in luck as we have gathered together the best fantasy series set in sprawling, epic worlds that we think fans of The Witcher will love. Check out our recommendations here…

WATCH: Are you a fan of The Witcher?

The Wheel of Time

The Wheel of Time made a huge splash when it landed on Amazon Prime Video last year. Based on a series of much-loved fantasy novels by the same name, it focuses on a sorceress named Moiraine, played by Rosamund Pike, as she goes on a journey to find the Dragon Reborn - the reincarnation of a powerful sorcerer who could save or end the world.

Have you given The Wheel of Time a try?

Shadow and Bone

Shadow and Bone is not as dark as The Witcher, but we think that fans can get on board, given that it’s full of drama, romance and magic too. The series, which will soon return to Netflix with new episodes, follows an orphan mapmaker named Alina, who discovers she has an extraordinary power that could change the fate of her war-torn world.

Shadow and Bone is also available on Netflix

Supernatural

If your favourite part of The Witcher is the monster-hunting, why not check out Supernatural? The series, which ended its 15-season run in 2020, starred Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as brothers Dean and Sam Winchester who hunt all sorts of otherwordly beings, including demons, ghosts and monsters in the modern world.

Supernatural is about modern-day monster hunters

The Mandalorian

While it might not seem like an obvious choice, scratch the surface a little and you’ll find that Disney+’s Star Wars spinoff series The Mandalorian actually has a lot in common with The Witcher. Both focus on a quietly brooding warrior whose everyday life consists of travelling the land in search of jobs for coin until he discovers that he has to protect a much younger and innocent character.

Why not try The Mandalorian?

The Umbrella Academy

While a touch more superhero than supernatural, The Umbrella Academy is one to add to your watchlist if you’re particularly blown away by the complex and creative storytelling elements of The Witcher because it is also helmed by writer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. The series, which stars Elliot Page, Robert Sheehan and Tom Hopper, follows a family of former child heroes who have grown apart but must reunite to continue to protect the world.

The Witcher fans might enjoy The Umbrella Academy

His Dark Materials

Starring many familiar names including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ruth Wilson and James McAvoy, BBC/HBO’s His Dark Materials blends magic with modern-day and, like The Witcher, centres on a young girl who finds herself at the centre of a great prophecy in a world where extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets exist. If you’ve not checked it out yet, make it a priority.

His Dark Materials is also set in a fantastic fantasy world
