Courteney Cox ‘uses’ her daughter Coco on Instagram to prepare her for showbiz career

Courteney Cox “uses” her daughter Coco on Instagram as she prepares her for a career in the spotlight.

The ‘Friends’ star admitted to having to “negotiate” with her 17-year-old daughter when it comes to posting pictures of her on social media, but she thinks it’s a good lesson for Coco’s hopes of getting into acting.

The 57-year-old actress - after being asked her Coco’s interest in her own work in Hollywood - told Extra: “Oh for sure. Although she is tortured by me saying, ‘Can we do something for Instagram…?’ I have to negotiate.

“I use her for Instagram and she knows it and she really rebels, since she’s going to be in the business, I know… She’s going to have to get used to eyes on her.”

Coco is keen to get into the family business, which seems a natural fit for her given her dad, David Arquette - as well as aunts Patricia, Rosanna, Alexis, grandfather Lewis and great grandfather Cliff - have also been part of that world.

However, David - whom Courteney was married to from 1999 to 2010 - spilled about their daughter’s indifference to watching her parents’ movies, including 1996 horror classic ‘Scream’, which is where they met.

The ‘Never Been Kissed’ star - who is now married to Christina McLarty with whom he has two more children - said: “She hasn’t seen the film.”

Courteney - who married to Snow Patrol guitarist Johnny McDaid in 2013 - added: “She’s seen part of ‘Scream 1’… She doesn’t like to watch anything we do… I’m gonna make her watch [the new ‘Scream’ movie] with her eyes open… I didn’t watch most of this film — I hear it’s really good.”

Previously. David and Courteney have both opened up about working together again.

David - who plays Officer Dewey Riley - said: “It’s a cathartic experience to just be able to act opposite Courteney. It’s been 25 years of our lives. We’ve grown up together. We have a child together.”

Courtney - who plays reporter Gale Weathers - compared it to the ‘Friends’ reunion she did last year, and explained: “It was such an emotional thing to come back. I had the same feeling when I walked on the set of ‘Friends’. I got really teary-eyed then too.”

Courteney Cox’s Net Worth Reveals What She Makes For ‘Scream’ Compared to ‘Friends’

If you want to know how much of Courteney Cox’s net worth includes what made on friends Friends—and its HBO Max reunion—you’ve come to right place. Allow us to dive into what to know about Courteney Cox’s net worth and her salary for Friends, Scream and more Hollywood franchises ahead.

Cox started acting career with a taste of fame in small television roles, like the 80’s sitcom Family Ties, where she starred as none other than Michael J. Fox’s character Alex P. Keaton’s girlfriend, Lauren Miller. And in the music world, fans also saw Cox as Bruce Springsteen’s 1984 music video for his song “Dancing in the Dark.” While these appearances kicked of Cox’s careers in 1980s, they didn’t compare to the fame Cox would see after she joined the cast of Friends in 1994. Cox starred on Friends as Monica Geller for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004. In 2021, she reunited with her cast—David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow—for a special on HBO Max titled Friends: The Reunion.

But Friends isn’t the only franchise Cox has starred in. In 1996, two years after the premiere of Friends, Cox made her debut as Gale Weathers, a local news reporter investigating murders in the small town of Woodsboro, California, in the Scream franchise. After the first Scream movie, Cox went on to star as Gale in four more Scream movies: Scream 2 in 1997; Scream 3 in 2000; Scream 4 in 2011; and Scream 5 in 2022. Along with Friends and Scream, Cox has also starred in numerous other TV shows. These shows include ABC’s Cougar Town, where she played Jules Cobb, a recently divorced woman in her 40s taking on all the hilariously messy challenges that come along with any major change. She starred on Cougar Town for 102 episodes and six seasons from 2009 to 2015.

How much did Courteney Cox make from Friends?

When Courteney Cox was cast as Monica Geller on Friends in 1994, she joined the show with a starting salary of $22,500 per episode. This was the same amount the rest of her cast mates received throughout season one, which amounted to a $540,000 paycheck per cast member by the end of the first season. By season 3, Cox and her co-stars managed to negotiate a $75,000 per episode salary—a practice they kept up until they eventually bargained for their famed $1 million per episode salary during seasons 9 and 10. Altogether, this amounted to earnings of approximately $90 million for Cox by the end of Friends.

But it gets even better: Cox and her castmates continue to take home millions in royalties. Warner Bros. makes an estimated $1 billion (yes, you read that right) in syndication deals alone. And according to a 2015 report by USA Today, Cox and her castmates earn a 2% cut from these syndication deals, amounting to around $20 million each per year.

The cast is also believed to have earned around $2 million each when Netflix paid for the rights to stream Friends on their platform in 2018, as per Lad Bible. Soon after, parent company WarnerMedia acquired the streaming rights to Friends again, resulting in the long-awaited Friends: The Reunion on HBO Max. And how much are they being paid for the reunion special, you ask? Anywhere between $2.5 million to $3 million!

In an interview with The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2021, Cox opened up about how “emotional” it was to reunite with her co-stars for the Friends reunion. “It was unbelievable. It was so emotional,” she said. “It’s an unscripted reunion, but we got to be on [Warner Bros.’] Stage 24 for the first time, all of us in, like, I forgot how many years. 15 years? 17 years?” She continued, “Oh god, I have the worst memory. Everything came up that I forgot about. It was great. It was really fun,” she added. “We had a lot of special surprises. It was fantastic. It really was.”

Cox has starred as Gale Weathers in five Scream movies: 1996’s Scream, 1997’s Scream 2, 2000’s Scream 3, 2011’s Scream 4 and 2022’s Scream 5. According to Forbes, Cox made $1 million for Scream; $5 million for Scream 2 and $7 million for Scream 3. Her salaries for Scream 4 and Scream 5 aren’t known.

Cox and her ex-husband, David Arquette, met on the set of Scream in 1996. “We met at a pre-party before we started filming Scream. I was being a little cocky and Courteney was like, ‘Ah, I’ve heard of you,’ and we just kept flirting for a while. She’s just so gorgeous and she jokes around so much,” he told People in 2009. They started dating soon after and married in 1999, a year before the premiere of Scream 3. In 2010, Cox and Arquette—who welcomed a daughter named Coco in 2004—announced their separation after 11 years of marriage.

“The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage,” they said in a statement at the time. “We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply. As we go though this process we are determined to use kindness and understanding to get through this together.” The statement continued, “We are comfortable with the boundaries that we have established for each other during this separation and we hope that our friends, family, fans and the media also show us respect, dignity, understanding and love at this time as well.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2011, Cox opened up about what it was like to star with her estranged husband in Scream 4, which premiered a year after their separation. “I just enjoy doing all three of them. That’s where I met David. Each Scream represents a huge turning point in my life: I met David on 1. We did not like each other on 2. We got married right before on 3. And Coco was born right before 4,” she said. “This series of movies means a lot to me. I loved Scream 1 so much and the thought of being able to do it again with the original cast, Wes Craven, Kevin Williamson, just bringing that back was really exciting to me.”

When asked if it was asked to film the movie with her estranged husband, she responded, “I love him so much. We are the closest of friends. I would say we’re probably better now than we were during that movie. The movie was just a little bit of a tough time. I don’t have the fondest memories of those particular moments during that film.” She continued, “It’s not hard to watch because we’ve moved past that phase. Some times were really fun. Some times we had a ball there! But it definitely was the beginning of some issues…We did have a great time no matter what, but there were some awkward moments. I don’t remember us ever getting into a fight. It wasn’t like that.”

The former Friends star made her return to prime-time for the first time in years as the star and executive producer of ABC’s Cougar Town in 2009. The series, which ran for six seasons until 2015, earned Cox an estimated $275,000 per episode, according to The Richest. While this is certainly not nearly as much as her famed $1 million per episode salary during seasons 9 and 10 of Friends, it’s still pretty impressive. At 102 episodes total, Cougar Town easily earned Cox at least $28 million overall.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Courteney Cox’s net worth in 2021 is an estimated $150 million. Monica would be proud. Her net worth also accounts for the money she’s made from her production company, Coquette Productions, which she launched in 2004 with her husband at the time, David Arquette.

In an interview with The Los Angeles Times in 2015, Cox revealed that she invested $1.5 million of her own money into the movie Just Before I Go, which was her directorial debut. “You really can’t get a cast unless you have financing,” she said. “And you can’t get financing unless you have a cast. It’s hard to get people to believe you can do it.” She continued, “[I put in $1.5 million], which I hear is not a very wise thing to do, but I did it. When I set my mind on something, I have to do it.”

‘Scream’: Drew Barrymore Confided in Courteney Cox During False Pregnancy ‘Breakdown’

img]

Actor and talk show host Drew Barrymore had a bigger role behind the scenes of the original Scream film than she did in the movie. But, even though she didn’t share any screen-time with the other leading stars, she was seemingly able to get close to a few of them.

While chatting about the film, Barrymore admitted she confided in co-star — and Friends actor — Courteney Cox when she thought she might be pregnant.

Drew Barrymore to Courteney Cox: ‘I’m freaking out!’

On an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the child acting icon spoke to some of her co-stars from Scream — more specifically the franchise’s long-running survivors, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette. Notably, that status does not include the 2022 film, Scream, which could send original cast under Ghostface’s knife.

Either way, during their chat, Barrymore addressed Cox about how chummy they became during the shoot. They were so close she chose the Friends star as a “safe person” to talk to about pregnancy concerns. Barrymore recalled to Cox, “I remember at the poster shoot I was, like, having a nervous breakdown because I was having a false sense of being pregnant.”

“I kept asking you, ‘How do you know if you’re pregnant? Like, I’m freaking out! We’re supposed to shoot this poster but oh my God, I just started dating somebody! How do you know?’” Barrymore went on.

Barrymore explained to Cox that she came to her as a kind of mentor. “I felt safe going to you, like you were the mature, safe person in the room,” she said.

Notably, Cox and Arquette had not had their daughter, Coco, yet. But she agreed that she was a good choice for the younger star to confide in. She responded, “I was the older one and I was the right person to ask.”

While Barrymore had those pregnancy concerns when she was in her early 20s, she didn’t have her first child until 2012 when daughter, Frankie, was born. Then, in 2014, she had her second daughter, Olive. She shares her kids with ex-husband, Will Kopelman.

Courteney Cox’s ‘Scream 3’ bangs might have been her personal scariest ‘Scream’ moment

Barrymore’s concerns about pregnancy on the Scream photo shoot seem to be a dominating memory for her. But Cox has a memory she apparently doesn’t like to talk about — her Scream 3 bangs.

During their all-things-Scream chat, Cox admitted she tries to make her character, Gale, appear slightly more “over the top gross” with each movie. A grinning Campbell then added, “Bangs.”

“Oh, well, that was the worst,” Cox declared. “I forgot about it.”

She then went on to say she learned a valuable lesson, as the hairstyle is now part of an iconic film franchise and something she seemingly can’t ever forget for long.

So, while Cox was someone for a young Barrymore to turn to for advice on the set of the first Scream, she was still learning some important lessons of her own by Scream 3.

Here’s the Real Reason Courteney Cox & David Arquette Divorced & Where They Stand Now

Since their split, fans have wondered why Courteney Cox and David Arquette divorced and where they are now after starring in five Scream movies.

Courteney and David met on the set of 1996’s Scream, in which they played love interests Gale Weathers and Dewy Riley. We “fell in love on the first, hated each other on the second, got married right before the third and…what are you talking about, what’s wrong? Is there some news about us?” Courteney told ABC News in 2011. In an interview with People in 2009, David revealed that he and Courteney met at a pre-party before filming for Scream started. “We met at a pre-party before we started filming Scream. I was being a little cocky and Courteney was like, ‘Ah, I’ve heard of you,’ and we just kept flirting for a while. She’s just so gorgeous and she jokes around so much,” he said. He also confirmed that it wasn’t love at first sight for Courteney. “For me it was, but not for her. I had to trick her,” he said.

David proposed to Courteney after two years of dating in 1998. According to a People report at the time, David proposed to Courteney on a beach on the East Coast while they were on vacation. “Courteney Cox Arquette, will you marry me?” he said as fireworks blasted off a barge he had hired. Courteney said yes, and David presented her with a Victorian engagement ring. That was classic Courteney and David,” Scream director Wes Craven told People. “He did something so unabashed and so heartfelt, and she just went with it.” David and Courteney married in 1998 at a wedding in San Francisco attended by stars like Courteney’s Friends co-stars, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc, as well as Aniston’s husband at the time, Brad Pitt, and David’s sister, Patricia Arquette.

In 2004, Courteney and David welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Coco. In an interview with The Daily Mail in 2008, Courteney claimed that “divorce” was “not an option” between her and David. “I get shocked by people getting divorced all the time, that’s why I choose to work on it. Therapy helps us,” she said at the time. “It’s so easy to grow apart; marriage takes work. I suppose you can work it out by talking to each other—I would just prefer to have a referee, it reminds us why we’re together.” Two years after the interview, Courteney and David announced their separation. They finalized their divorce three years after their announcement. So why did Courteney Cox and David Arquette divorce? Read on for the real reason behind their breakup and where they are now.

Why did Courteney Cox and David Arquette divorce?

Why did Courteney Cox and David Arquette divorce? Courteney and David announced their separation in October 2010 after more than 11 years of marriage. In a statement to People at the time, Courteney and David revealed that they had

“agreed to a trial separation that [dated] back for some time” before they decided to make their split official. “The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage,” the statement read.

In an interview with Howard Stern that same month, David confirmed that he was “not the one that called this [separation] in order.” “It breaks my heart,” he said. “I’ve been begging Courteney to get back with me. She’s conflicted too.” During the interview, David hinted that he and Courteney broke up because of how immature he was. “She said to me, ‘I don’t want to be your mother anymore,’” he said. “And I appreciated that about her … She didn’t want to tell me, ‘Don’t do that.’ She didn’t want to nag me anymore.”

Courteney, for her part, told Stern in April 2011 that she and David split due to their sexual differences. “It was early in the morning,” Courteney said of a time when he and David were at a Disneyworld hotel with their daughter, Coco. “This is one of our problems in our relationship. Whenever I would need consoling from David, he could not literally put his arm around me for one second without completely getting a boner.”

Courtney later clarified that David didn’t ask her for sex at that time. “[He] was never like, ‘Oh, I’m so sorry your Dad is dying. Can we fuck?’” she said. “So [Disney World] just wasn’t the right time and I don’t want to confuse the issue. We’re going through a hard time.” Later in the interview, Courteney revealed the real reason for her and David’s breakup was because of how “different” they were. “You can’t count [Disney World] as the place where you know I’m not into you. I had just woken up,” she said. “I don’t think [sexual attraction] is the issue. The truth of the matter is that we love each other so much. We have such affection for each other but we are very different.”

She continued, “We are not fighters. We probably don’t get as real as we needed to as we do now. there are a lot of things that David likes to do completely the opposite things I do. I’m a homebody. David…doesn’t drink anymore, he’s completely sober, but he likes to go out and dance…I don’t want to inhibit him in his life,” Cox explained. “He really is a very gregarious guy, he’s very outgoing. I’m much more of an introvert.”

Courtney and David filed for divorce on the same day in June 2012. They finalized their divorce in May 2013. “Irreconcilable differences have caused the irremediable breaking of the marriage,” read court documents obtained by People signed Courtney, David and a judge. “The marital status of the parties is terminated.” They agreed to joint custody of Coco.

After their separation, David and Courteney went on to star in two more Scream movies: 2011’s Scream 4 and 2022’s Scream 5. They also continue to run their production company, Coquette Productions, together. The company, which they founded in 2012, is a combination of their names. In an interview with Yahoo in 2020, David revealed that he and “never battled” throughout their divorce or as co-parents to Coco. “We’re co-parents to our daughter who’s 16 so we have a really great relationship,” he said at the time. “We’re friends, and we’ve communicated a lot because of Coco.” He continued, “Our daughter’s really great. There’s difficult parts, especially through the teenage years. There’s a lot of emotions and feelings. We’ve just had – not an easy time with it, we’ve just been really open and supportive of each other. We never went head-to-head, [or] battled each other, through the process of divorce and through the process of raising our kid. So it’s made for a friendship and relationship that is out of respect.” Courteney also called David her “best friend” in an interview with People in 2012 .“He’s my favorite person in the world,” she said. “He’s my best friend. No matter what happens in our future, he’s my very best friend.”

Less than a year after she finalized her divorce from David, Courteney started her Snow Patrol singer Johnny McDaid. They announced their engagement in June 2013. In 2019, Courteney confirmed that she and McDaid had ended their engagement but continue to be in a relationship. David, for his part, started dating Entertainment Tonight reporter Christina McLarty in 2011. The two welcomed their first child together, a son named Charlie West, in 2014. David and McLarty ot engaged in July 2014 and married in April 2015. They welcomed their second child together, a son named Augustus Alexis, in 2017.

Courteney Cox and Greg Kinnear Look to Start Anew by Moving into Old Mansion in Shining Vale First Look

Courteney Cox and Greg Kinnear are starring in an upcoming horror-comedy for Starz called Shining Vale — and PEOPLE has your first look!

In the show, Cox, 57, and Kinnear, 58, portray married couple Pat and Terry Phelps, who move from a cramped apartment in Brooklyn to an old mansion in Connecticut as a last-ditch effort to save their marriage after her affair.

Get push notifications with news, features and more.

In PEOPLE’s exclusive clip, the pair tour the old Connecticut mansion together and are given the lay of the land — even learning about an attic that has “plenty of storage.”

“I’m going to be using the attic as my writing annex,” Pat tells the realtor, who then wonders whether the author’s work is something she might be familiar with.

After Terry details Pat’s “first novel,” the realtor responds: “Oh, the lady porn.”

“What was that? 20 years ago?” the real estate agent continues as Pat replies, “No, it was 17 and it’s not porn. It’s a women’s empowerment story about a sex addict that makes bad choices.”

Terry then notes it’s “just a complete work of fiction” and calls it “amazing” after Pat sternly reiterates that it’s a fiction novel.

From there, Pat says she’s “hoping” that moving to the countryside will help her find her muse again. She then questions whether the house’s heat works after noting how “cold” it is.

“Should be! Just give it a bit. I mean, the house has been empty for nearly two years,” the realtor says. “She’s probably not used to having people inside of her!”

Created by Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan, Shining Vale follows Pat and Terry as they try to save their marriage by moving their dysfunctional family from their Brooklyn apartment into an old Connecticut mansion with a rich past. While there, Pat begins to wonder whether she’s depressed or possessed as a woman continues to appear to her.

Mira Sorvino, Sherilyn Fenn, Gus Birney, Dylan Gage, Merrin Dungey and Judith Light are also in the cast.

The series has been in development since 2018, initially preparing to launch at Showtime. Shining Vale later moved over to Starz and received a first season order of eight episodes last April.

“Shining Vale is a smart, chilling and funny series that tells the story of a family in turmoil who is suddenly living with a paranormal who helps Courteney Cox’s character get her groove back as she starts to question her own sanity,” Starz said in a statement. “This group of talented actors, executive producers and director blends comedy and horror brilliantly throughout this series which exemplifies the network’s commitment to improve female representation on and off the screen.”
