The Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group (EUSOG) returns to live theatre after two years, are presenting their biggest production ever: “Legally Blonde the Musical.” It runs at the Church Hill Theatre, Morningside, from 25 January to 29 January inclusive.

EUSOG was founded in 1961 when following a production of ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’ by the UOC, a first-year student called Robert Heath approached Rolly York, who had been playing Falstaff, and asked him if he might be interested in starting a Gilbert & Sullivan society – and thus EUSOG was born.

To start the society the founders were given a grant of £25 from the University and their first production was put on in the Little Theatre in the Pleasance, which was a huge success. Three years following Robert was then able to pay this loan back and the group has been growing ever since.

Every year, EUSOG put on a musical in the first semester, a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta in the second, and take a show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. They say that they pride themselves on inclusivity and creating an enjoyable environment.

Legally Blonde run to boost Ben Pavitt’s Legacy of Love Fund

A FUND launched in honour of a Southampton teenager who lost his battle with cancer will receive a theatrical boost this week.

Benjamin Pavitt was just 16 when a relapse of his acute T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoblastic lymphoma ended his life in October.

Former Noadswood School pupil Ben, from Marchwood, raised thousands for charity during 15 months of treatment and wanted his legacy to be one of helping others.

His Legacy of Love Fund, launched by parents Mike and Suzie and sister Lauren, has already raised £18,500 to help the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group to raise much-needed funds for research into children’s cancers.

The curtain will go up on its latest fundraiser tonight.

SOS Presents, an amateur dramatic group the whole Pavitt family enjoyed performing with, is staging musical Legally Blonde at MAST Mayflower Studios from tonight until Saturday. Ben’s father Mike is understudying the role of Callahan.

Supported by Southampton law firm Paris Smith, where Mike is a partner, a portion of ticket sales from the show and retiring collections will go to Ben’s fund.

The Pavitts all appeared in the society’s version of Oliver. Ben also performed with Waterside Musical Society. He’s pictured playing one of the Von Trapp children alongside his father Mike.

In Legally Blonde, pretty Elle Woods just wants to marry her college sweetheart. But Warner has big career ambitions – and needs a serious girlfriend. When Warner dumps Elle and heads to Harvard Law School, Elle vows to do whatever it takes to win him back. Even if that means studying at the world’s most prestigious law school herself.

The secret to ‘Jeopardy!’ champion’s success: ‘Who is Eminem?’

img]

Eminem isn’t a “Jeopardy!” contestant, but he’s fueling one of the show’s all-time greats.

Amy Schneider, the current reigning, defending and undisputed “Jeopardy!” champion, draws her winning inspiration from Eminem’s Oscar-winning “8 Mile” theme “Lose Yourself,” she told host Ken Jennings on Wednesday’s episode of the syndicated game show.

Jennings, himself the all-time winningest “Jeopardy!” champ, asked Schneider during the interview segment about her pre-show ritual, and what gets her into “fighting shape” for the show.

Without her palms getting sweaty, her knees weak or her arms heavy, she went on to pay homage to Eminem’s 2002 smash.

“Right before the taping starts when they’re doing the countdown, I will get the song ‘Lose Yourself’ by Eminem going in my head,” said Schneider, an engineering manager from Oakland, California. “It’s just a reminder that this is my one shot at ‘Jeopardy!’ and it’s staying in the moment, and there’s no excuse for thinking about anything else. This is the only thing I need to think about right now.”

“Well it appears to be working out,” Jennings said, before adding in a “Lose Yourself” reference of his own: “If you’re going to be on ‘Jeopardy,’ " he said, “think about mom’s spaghetti, and you may win 35 times in a row.”

That total is now up to 36. Schneider, 42, won again on Wednesday, despite missing the Final Jeopardy! clue, an answer about which 2001 film was described by its screenwriters as “Clueless” meets “The Paper Chase.” (The winning question: “What is ‘Legally Blonde?’” Schneider guessed “Never Been Kissed.”)

But she won nonetheless, adding $17,800 to her total, bringing her earnings to $1,181,8000 and making Stans everywhere proud.

Schneider goes for win No. 37 on Thursday’s show, which airs locally on WDIV-TV (Ch. 4) at 7:30 p.m.

Heidi Klum in a Fuchsia Pantsuit Is The Ultimate Workwear Inspiration for 2022

Heidi Klum has once again completely nailed professional dressing, Legally Blonde-style. What, like it’s hard?

The model and TV personality recently stepped out in Beverly Hills to film Making the Cut, the fashion design competition show she hosts alongside Tim Gunn.

On this occasion, Klum is sure to have turned many a head in her fuchsia pantsuit, with an oversized blazer, wide-legged pants and a matching turtleneck crop top. She paired the eye-catching ensemble with elegant red pumps, giant frameless pink sunglasses, and a hot pink fluffy mini bag with a pair of eyes and 3D lashes on it.

Beauty-wise, Klum wore her long highlighted blonde hair down, framing her face perfectly with her cool-girl curtain bangs, and her long nails were painted red to match her shoes.

Alongside his co-host, the elegant Gunn wore a pinstripe blue suit, a checked white and blue shirt, a red, white and blue striped tie, and brown dress shoes.

Both Klum and Gunn are clearly pros at this whole “dressing for work” thing… excuse me as I stare down regretfully at my ratty leggings. That said, the two spoke to Marie Claire about their WFH style in April 2020, reassuring us that when they’re not likely to get papped in Beverly Hills—say, because there’s a global pandemic doing the rounds—they’re just like us all.

“I’ve talked to people who say if they get dressed as though they’re going to work it instills in them a stronger sense of normalcy, but I disagree,” Gunn told us. “It would make it feel stranger if I’m dressed for work but I’m not going to work. But people have different points of view.”

Klum doubled down, “On Sunday, I stayed in pajamas all day. I’m definitely not a fashionista in my house right now. It’s more How can I tackle everything? and that’s what I’m wearing… I feel like there is no right or wrong, right now.”

Everything in moderation—even workwear fashion.
