Moon Knight: Premiere, release date, cast, trailer, news and more
]
Marvel’s Moon Knight is coming to screens and here is everything you need to know about the Disney Plus series.
Of all the upcoming Marvel Studios shows on Disney Plus, Moon Knight is undoubtedly the most mysterious. Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, it will bring the brooding hero to the screen for the first time ever, and better yet, as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The MCU shows have become a big part of the Disney Plus line-up, with WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki and What If…? all entertaining fans throughout the year (with upcoming installments Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk and, of course, Moon Knight generating plenty of excitement too).
But what do we know about the Oscar Isaac-led series? When is it coming to Disney+ and will it be the next one to make its presence felt after Hawkeye‘s arrival at the end of the year?
Below, you’ll find all the up-to-date information you need about Moon Knight, its premiere on Disney Plus, its cast, any trailers and more.
Moon Knight release date
The official release date for Moon Knight has yet to be revealed. However, it is expected to premiere on Disney Plus sometime in 2022.
There has been speculation that Moon Knight will be the first of the Disney Plus shows to premiere this year, arriving in February 2022, and a new rumor now suggests that it will premiere on March 30, 2022. That has yet to be confirmed and it remains unknown if the show, or any, will premiere in February. Fans are hoping for some kind of announcement from Disney+’s TCA presentation.
Moon Knight cast
Like essentially everything else about the show, Moon Knight‘s cast details have been pretty much kept under wraps. We do know that Oscar Isaac will be playing the titular hero, Ethan Hawke will be playing the villain of the piece and that May Calamawy has been cast in an undisclosed role but that’s about it.
As of writing, this is the cast listing for the upcoming MCU series:
Oscar Isaac – Marc Spector/Moon Knight
Ethan Hawke – Unknown (villain)
May Calamawy – Unknown
Moon Knight trailer
A trailer for Moon Knight has not yet been released. The series recently wrapped filming, with production coming to an end in October, so it wasn’t possible for Marvel Studios to release a full-length trailer just yet.
The trailer is expected to be released tonight during the NFL Super Wild Card matchup on ESPN and ABC.
What is Moon Knight about?
No official synopsis has been released by Disney Plus as of yet, so the show remains Marvel’s most mysterious project on the horizon. However, we can piece together its premise just because of the source material that inspired it.
Isaac’s character, Marc Spector, is a former CIA Agent whose life is saved by the Moon God, Khonsu. Upon resurrection as the “moon’s knight”, Spector decides to atone for his sins as a mercenary and protect people as the supernatural vigilante crimefighter known as Moon Knight.
The first look of the suit that Oscar Isaac might wear may have been leaked earlier this year, but it’s still unclear as to whether it was actually from the show or an incredible fan’s design.

How Eternals Could Lead to Moon Knight
]
✖
Moon Knight may be gearing up for reshoots, but it’s still set for release at some point this year. In fact, the series could closely be tied to Eternals, a movie from Marvel Studios that just hit Disney+ on Wednesday. The latest synopsis says Moon Knight will feature a war between gods, and creators with Marvel Studios have referenced the Jack Kirby-created characters as the inspiration for the various mythologies within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After all, the franchise does treat Asgardians—god in their own right—as if they’re aliens instead of mythological powerhouses.
But that’s not the lone connection. In the closing moments of Eternals, Dane Whitman (Kit Harington) uncovers the Ebony Blade before he’s stopped by an off-screen voice that was later revealed to be that of Blade (Mahershala Ali). The Ebony Blade could lead to Moon Knight for a few separate reasons. First, the Oscar Isaac-led series is expected to dive head-first into ancient cultures, and the MacGuffin could make an appearance in one of the museums Marc Spector (Isaac) ventures through during the series.
More importantly, however, is that Marvel Studios seems to be organizing a horror-corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or, at the very least, a team featuring some of the franchise’s darker characters. We saw that with Whitman (the Black Knight) and Blade, and perhaps the duo may end up appearing in Moon Knight. The series may also serve as a launchpad for the Werewolf by Night Halloween special Marvel Studios is expected to begin filming sometime next month, a character that serves as a foundational building block of all things Marvel horror.
Moon Knight has yet to set a release date, while Eternals is now streaming on Disney+. If you haven’t signed up for Disney+ yet, you can try it out here.

Moon Knight, Obi-Wan release dates may be revealed very soon

Update: The TCA winter press tour day for Disney Plus has ended, and there were no announcements about release dates for any upcoming MCU or Star Wars TV shows.
Original story follows.
The release dates for Moon Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi and other highly anticipated Disney Plus shows may be imminent. That is, if a recent report and Television Critics Association (TCA) announcement are anything to go by.
With its 2022 winter press tour in full swing, the TCA revealed (on Thursday, January 13) that Friday, January 14 would be entirely devoted to Disney’s streaming platform.
But, while the TCA’s announcement doesn’t specifically mention any upcoming Marvel Phase 4 or Star Wars projects for Disney’s streaming platform, a recent report from What’s On Disney Plus suggests that we may finally learn when some of 2022’s most eagerly anticipated shows could arrive.
That is a wrap for the TCA Virtual Winter Press Tour today. We will be back tomorrow with Disney+. Thanks for following along. #TCA22January 13, 2022 See more
What’s On Disney Plus claims that The Book of Boba Fett, which is almost halfway through its episodic run, will be featured in some capacity. The report also suggests that we’ll learn more about upcoming animated show The Proud Family: Prouder and Louder, as well as National Geographic’s Earth Day line-up.
But it’s the announcements at last year’s winter press tour that suggests we could hear something official about the launches of MCU shows like Moon Knight, and Star Wars TV series including Obi-Wan Kenobi’s standalone adventure, very soon.
Per What’s On Disney Plus’ article, launch dates for multiple MCU and Star Wars TV series, such as Loki and The Bad Batch, were unveiled at the 2021 winter press tour. Other shows, including Pixar’s Monsters at Work and Turner & Hooch, also received their official release dates at the virtual event.
With Disney and the TCA unveiling the launch dates for Disney Plus’ 2021 slate at last year’s conference, could we see something similar this time around, too? We’ve got our fingers and toes crossed for some release date reveals. There are plenty of Marvel and Star Wars TV shows coming this year, including She-Hulk and Cassian Andor’s prequel series. So we’re holding out hope that some of these projects will finally be given an official release date.
(Image credit: Lucasfilm)
Of the myriad of Disney Plus shows – Marvel, Star Wars, or other Disney originals – in the works, there are five release dates that we’re really keen to learn about.
For Marvel, we know that Moon Knight, She-Hulk and Ms Marvel are definitely coming sometime this year. Ms Marvel was given a summer 2022 release window in late 2021, but the other two shows haven’t received tentative launch dates yet.
With production complete on this trio of MCU TV series, we’re hoping that one or two (at the very least) will be given official release dates at the TCA’s 2022 winter press tour. We don’t expect any of them to get teaser trailers alongside their potential launch date announcements. But, we’d certainly take the latter if it means we’d know when to expect the next batch of Marvel Disney Plus shows.
As for Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Cassian Andor’s solo adventures are scheduled to take flight in 2022. Andor, a prequel series to Star Wars: Rogue One, is currently slated for a mid- to late-2022 release. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan, which is set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, was briefly teased during the Disney Plus Day celebrations in November 2021. However, we’re still waiting to hear when it’ll land on the streamer.
We don’t expect all of the above to receive official release dates on January 14. Disney and the TCA have previous form for making such announcements, though, so we’re pretty confident that a couple of these shows will get their launch dates confirmed in the immediate future. The Book of Boba Fett will end on February 9, so there’ll be a galaxy-sized Star Wars hole on Disney Plus after its finale airs. As for Marvel Studios, unless one of its upcoming TV shows is released soon, it’ll be four months before their next project – Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – lands in theaters.
Let’s hope for some good news very, very soon, then.
Sony Developing ‘Thread’ From Atomic Monster & ‘Moon Knight’s Jeremy Slater
]
EXCLUSIVE: We hear that Sony is in early development on Thread, which Jeremy Slater, the head scribe of the upcoming Disney+/Marvel series Moon Knight, will write and direct.
Atomic Monster is producing with James Wan and Michael Clear (Malignant, Salem’s Lot) with Judson Scott and Melissa Russell serving as Executive Producers.
The story is being kept secret, though we hear Thread is billed as Back to The Future meets Aliens.
Moon Knight, which stars Oscar Isaac, is expected to debut on Disney+ this year. Isaac plays a former U.S. Marine, struggling with dissociative identity disorder, who is granted the powers of an Egyptian moon god. But he soon finds out that these newfound powers can be both a blessing and a curse to his troubled life. Slater also created the critically-acclaimed series The Exorcist on Fox and The Umbrella Academy for Netflix.
Atomic Monster is behind New Line’s highest grossing horror franchise The Conjuring and also produced Malignant this past year as well as There’s Someone Inside Your House. Upcoming for the company is M3GAN, starring Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, and Ronny Chieng, and Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot, starring Lewis Pullman, Alfre Woodard, and Bill Camp; as well as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the latter which Wan directed and just finished in Malibu (see below).
Slater is represented by UTA, Kaplan-Perrone and Jeff Frankel at McKuin, Frankel Whitehead LLP. Wan is represented by CAA, Stacey Testro International and Myman Greenspan Fox Rosenberg Mobasser Younger & Light LLP.
