Watch Young & Restless’ Eric Braeden Slay as ‘the Cruelest Man I Have Ever Seen’ — and Steal Betty White’s Heart in the Process

And we thought Victor Newman was ruthless!
To think that we missed its anniversary! January 8 marked 44 years to the day that Eric Braeden guest-starred on classic comedy The Mary Tyler Moore Show as a critic whose first appearance on the WJM newscast makes a lasting impression.
As you’ll see in the clip below, as anchorman Ted Baxter (the late Ted Knight) becomes ever more flustered, Braeden’s Karl Heller wonders aloud why “no first-rate art has ever been created in this big but intellectually famished and sterile city” of Minneapolis.

Behind the scenes, the WJM gang is beside themselves, rightly anticipating the complaints that are about to start pouring into the station. But one member of the team has an altogether different reaction to Karl’s diatribe — or at least to handsome Karl himself. Hot-to-trot Happy Homemaker Sue Ann Nivens (the late, great Betty White) marvels that he’s “the cruelest man I have ever seen.
“I think I’m in love,” she adds. Classic White as Sue Ann. You can watch the scene unfold below.

When White died recently at 99 years old, Braeden tweeted that, in essence, she’d taken the cake. “A sweet lady passed on,” he wrote. “You have entertained millions for many decades.
“What a life!” he continued. What a life, indeed!

Now then, though when you think of Braeden, you’re likelier to think of The Young and the Restless’ Victor Newman and heavy drama than sitcom mischief, the Emmy winner has never been a one-trick pony. In fact, back in the 1970s, he was switching lanes on the regular, going from guesting on Westerns (Gunsmoke, Bearcats!) to tackling superhero fare (Wonder Woman, The Six Million Dollar Man) to showing us the funny (Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo).
While you’re here, maybe missing White anew, pay your respects to all the greats that we lost in 2021 with the below photo gallery.
Y&R Spoilers Weekly Update: New Ventures and a Plan of Attack
]
Y&R spoilers weekly update for January 17 – 21, 2022, tease the week ahead is full of job offers, revenge plots, and a plan of attack to take down a rival. Tune in next week so you can catch all of the action in Genoa City!
Y&R Spoilers Weekly Recap
Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc) had a big decision to make. Should he go out while he’s at the top of his game? He consults with family and friends, before ultimately deciding that now is a good time to hang up his hat and retire.
Since Newman-Locke is in the process of buying ChancComm, Victoria Newman Locke (Amelia Heinle) asks Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) if they can buy Newman Media, too. Victor says he won’t be selling to her.
Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) wants to spend a few minutes of alone time with his wife. Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) happily agrees and can be ready at any minute. But now Rey is the one having trouble focusing on his wife, as he wonders how Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) is feeling.
The Young and the Restless Week Ahead
Fresh off of his decision to retire, Michael is faced with a decision when Victor recruits him to help protect the Newman legacy. Michael weighs his options seriously and thinks about what becoming Victor’s legal counsel once more would entail.
Surprisingly, Victor admits that he’s skeptical of Ashland Locke now that he’s seemingly recovering from his cancer diagnosis, and wants to launch an investigation. After some back and forth, Michael agrees to the position and sets to work looking into Ashland’s health history. Not surprisingly, Ashland’s history brings forward a lot more questions than answers.
Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) pulled back from his earlier vow to sue for legal access to Dominic, but he still won’t let up on over-analyzing Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor’s (Melissa Ordway) and Chance Chancellor’s parenting strategies. His concerns about Chance (Conner Floyd) haven’t subsided and he continues telling anyone and everyone who will listen that he just can’t let it go. Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) knows what Devon is feeling and the two sit down to strategize. Poor baby Dominic is already caught in the middle of so much drama!
Also coming up this week, Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) continues to plot against Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). We have no idea how she can dedicate so much of her time worrying about what Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and Sally are doing… maybe she should focus her attention on her job, mental well-being, or on Connor (Judah Mackey)? All of those seem like a higher priority (and less of a headache) than constantly worrying about what Sally and Adam are up to.

The Young and the Restless History

News Roundup: Casting Shockers, Relationship Warning Signs and Storyline Fixes That Can Be Made Before It’s Too Late

Plus, previews of what’s coming next!
We get it. You’re busy. Every now and then, some of the latest breaking news is going to slip under the radar. But that’s why we’re here — it’s literally our job to catch you up on the latest happenings in the daytime! Whether you love The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital or The Young and the Restless — or all of the above — this is your one-stop shop to find out what’s going on.
The Bold and the Beautiful
Would a single person be surprised if Taylor, against all common sense, made another play for Ridge? We didn’t think so. But what if that’s not what happens ? There is one thing she could do to completely upend her relationship with the Forresters and change how everyone sees her!
Bold & Beautiful seems to have accidentally created a mystery around Zende that we’re dying to explore. Hopefully they can answer our burning questions — and if not, maybe you can.
As we look back fondly on the late, great Darlene Conley, John McCook shared some memories of the woman who played the original, incomparable Sally Spectra.
Did Jacqueline MacInnes Wood just reveal the sex of her next baby? It certainly seemed like it when she shared this photo!
Amber may be a so-so parent, but Adrienne Frantz is an incredible mom. After nearly dying following childbirth, all she could think about was her kids. And now, she couldn’t be more excited to welcome her third “miracle” into the world! This week’s Bold & Beautiful nearly drove Richard to drink (although granted, that’s a very short trip). Check out what he’d much rather Steffy be doing than pushing her mom to reunite with Ridge. Plus, find out which character he’s pretty much heard enough about. What Went Down Last Week: Brooke continued to question what could have pushed her to drink again. Ridge stood by his wife, but got angry when Hope mentioned Deacon. Hope asked Steffy and Taylor to stay out of Brooke and Ridge’s marriage. Steffy later encouraged her mom to fight to reunite their family. Deacon declared his love to Brooke. Paris’ mom, Grace, came to town. Zende wondered if Paris might be interested in another guy, never realizing that Carter — to whom he put this question — was the other man.
Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives has a serious Hope problem, but we have an idea of how they could fix it. Unfortunately, while it might give fans what they want down the road , it could very well enrage them in the short term!
We’re barely into Possession 2.0 and JoDevil already feels like a breath of fresh air to Lori. Now, if only the rest of Days of Our Lives felt the same! Mostly, it feels like the other stories are busy building up to something else. Find out which plot threads hit and which were just spinning their wheels in this week’s Soapbox!
What Went Down Last Week: As EJ’s trial got under way, Chad planned to help clear his name… but that was before JoDevil got involved. Chad believed he was seeing Abigail kiss EJ when clearly, it was a transformed JoDevil. Nancy showed up in Salem to tell Chloe that she suspected Craig was having an affair. Steve and Kayla went undercover as Father Nichols and Sister Mary Elizabeth as they searched for Kristen. Ava conspired to frame Rafe and later received a call from Kristen, who offered her help.
General Hospital
Willow and Michael had a good run, but we’re pretty sure the writing is on the wall — in big, bold letters — that their relationship will soon come to an end . Yes, we have our reasons for thinking that, and no, you probably won’t be happy after reading them!
