Kanye West is opening up about the all the drama that surfaced when he purchased a home across the street from his estranged wife, Kim Kardashian.

While their divorce has yet to be finalized, Kardashian, 41, filed to be “legally single” last month, stating her marriage is “irretrievably” broken.

A few weeks later, it was revealed that West, 44, purchased a $4.5 million teardown directly adjacent to the home he had designed and built with Kardashian. She bought the home from West in a $23 million buyout.

Now West has confirmed that he needed a home that was close to his children.

“My solace comes from seeing my kids and getting a solid schedule. That’s why I even got the house,” West explained to Hollywood Unlocked’s Jason Lee. “[It was] flipped into there was something wrong with me getting a house next to my kids.”

“You see when my mom took me from Atlanta to Chicago, my dad didn’t come to the coldest and most dangerous city in the world to be next to [me],” West added. “He said, ‘I’m going to stay down in Atlanta.’”

“Nothing with my career, with this rap, with this media, with none of that, that’s gonna keep me from my children. And that’s what I want everybody to know,” he added. “Don’t play with me, don’t play with my children. Ain’t no security gonna get in between me and my children and you ain’t gonna gaslight me.”

A source previously told The Post that it all came down to “logistics” so that he “has access to them at the drop of a hat.”

But Kardashian’s divorce lawyer Laura Wasser told Page Six it was “news to us” that the children were being kept from West.

“Mr. West being kept from the children, by security or anyone else, is news to us,” she said in a statement. “Both parties’ priority has always been the children maintaining strong bonds with each of their parents throughout this transition and beyond.”

Located in the Hidden Hills, the five-bedroom, four-bathroom home is outdated, with shaggy beige carpets and vintage wood paneling.

West was lucky with the timing as this was the first time the former owners had put the home and land up for sale in 67 years.

The “Donda” rapper was so desperate for the land, he offered $421,000 more than the seller’s asking price.

West recently shelled out a whopping $57.3 million for an oceanfront Malibu estate.

Meanwhile, West is also hoping to unload one of two of his Wyoming ranches, which he listed for sale for $11 million in October.

Kanye West is still reeling about his pending divorce from Kim Kardashian.

The 44-year-old rapper has “struggled” seeing his estranged wife dating Pete Davidson, a source close to West tells PEOPLE.

“It’s very hard for him that Kim has moved on. This is something he has struggled with since Kim started dating Pete. He never pretended he was happy about it,” the insider says. “He doesn’t want Kim to date Pete. Or anyone else.”

Speaking to Jason Lee on an upcoming episode of Hollywood Unlocked, West asks the host, “How you gonna bring me to SNL and kiss the dude you dating right in front of me and everybody’s like, ‘Aw, that’s cool?’” (The rapper is referring to an Aladdin sketch Kardashian and Davidson kissed in when the reality star hosted Saturday Night Live in October.)

Reps for Kardashian and West did not respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.

The reality star, 41, first sparked romance rumors with Davidson last October, when they were seen holding hands while riding a roller coaster at Knott’s Scary Farm in Buena Park, California, following her appearance on Saturday Night Live.

Regardless of her new romance, West believed the Keeping Up with Kardashians alum would reconsider their divorce.

“To Kanye, he and Kim are still married. He always thought Kim was gonna change her mind about the divorce. His whole life is in turmoil,” the source adds. “He is trying his best to stay busy with work and [new girlfriend] Julia [Fox].”

The Grammy winner made his relationship with Fox public with a steamy photoshoot last week but a second insider previously told PEOPLE that he still wants to rekindle his romance with Kardashian.

“He’s still telling people that he wants to have Kim back and he is willing to make appropriate changes to do so,” the second source revealed.

The source adds that West “has no plans at this time to start a long-term relationship.”

It’s been a busy month from the Kanye West camp. A close associate claimed that work has already begun on the follow-up to his Grammy-nominated album Donda, and a couple of videos of studio sessions leaked. Pictures of Ye with L.A.-based rapper The Game have fueled speculation that a collaborative song is incoming, and even rap insider Wack100 said that Kanye was dropping something today. That may or may not happen, but on Friday, Kanye shared a new post on Instagram indicating that something with The Game is coming.

Shaq Weighs In On Kanye West Moving Next Door To Kim Kardashian

In the middle of a semi-contentious divorce, Kanye West has made significant efforts to win his wife Kim Kardashian back, to include telling the world what he did wrong. Yet, it has been somewhat confusing because the two have seemingly already started to date other people. The rapper has also reportedly bought the house across the street from Kardashian and their four kids, further adding to the confusion on the exact status of their relationship. The curious next-door situation has even had ex-NBA player Shaquille O’Neil surprisingly weighing in with a take.

On a recent Big Podcast with Shaq episode, the former Lakers center and his co-hosts Nischelle Turner and Spice Adams were actually having a good laugh about it all. Turner remarked that it might typically be considered very “evolved” and “adult” to co-parent as next door neighbors with one’s ex, as the Kanye West reports suggest is the intent of his house move. But really, she thinks the Grammy winner (who is currently under a legal investigation) is being a “Petty LaBelle.” Shaq likewise made a pointed joke about the now-debunked rumors circulating (per HITC) that Kanye West camouflaged himself and hid in Kardashian’s bushes, saying,

His motive was to have some nice trees in the yard, so he cut off a couple limbs and he made a tree suit.

Shaq and Spice Adams both echoed Nischelle Turner’s sentiments about what the move actually means for the rapper. Namely, the former Entertainment Tonight correspondent suggested that Kanye West’s change of address is futile if he’s really just hoping to rekindle his romance with Kim Kardashian. She commented,

Can I just say something? When your woman is being publicly seen with another man, it’s over for you bro. This is a public service announcement to Kanye. When your lady is holding hands, gallivanting, in the Bahamas with another man, it’s over. It’s done. She’s not coming back.

The podcast group – in the hilariously named “Big Shaqstradamus” episode – continued to laugh about Kanye West’s rather odd relationship dynamics of late. Specifically, West’s date night/photoshoot with new flame Julia Fox was considered “wild,” with Shaq himself adding that he “didn’t like” how that “photoshoot” was “set up.” (Kim Kardashian, for her part, is totally fine with it.)

The trio also referenced the rapper’s previous serenade to Kim Kardashian and her new beau Pete Davidson, with Spice Adams saying that there would likely be a “fight in Hidden Hills.” Hidden Hills is the notorious mansion that the former couple built together and that Kardashian is actually facing some legal drama over concerning a neighbor. (Not to be confused with West, though.)

While Kanye West and his reality star ex-wife still might have some struggles to overcome, Myles O’Neill is following in his father’s footsteps – as a reality TV star. Shaq’s son and seven other famous offspring make up the cast of the recently premiered Relatively Famous on Hulu. The show is being sold as a Bling Empire meets The Simple Life concept.

Shaq, however, might want to consider being careful with jokes about Kanye West’s complicated dynamic with Kim Kardashian. West is known to throw himself into a major beef or two.

Sources Say Kanye West Has a Plan

Is there a plan? Some grand scheme that will all be revealed eventually? And when it’s revealed, will the person doing the revealing be some kind of villain who insists on explaining his genius plot to captives before, you know, completing the plan? Or will the grand scheme be revealed by a benevolent figure, welcoming one into all-knowing understanding, suddenly making sense of all the twists and turns along the way? Or—last option here—is it all just random sequences of events and not that deep after all?

These are the kind of persistent questions I have when I think about Kanye “Ye” West, Kim Kardashian, and their respective current flings, downtown darling Julia Fox, and the pride of Staten Island, Pete Davidson. What’s the motive here? What’s the endgame? Does it mean anything or nothing at all?

The two supernovas of fame began their divorce in February, and by October, Kardashian had been linked to Davidson. Those two have explored something of a teenage romance. Dates comprised of roller coasters, Spider-Man movies, and pajama parties. As for Ye, he’s been dating around, and most recently took Fox to two Carbone locations, one in Miami and one in New York—she wrote all about it in Interview.

There have been theories, rumblings that there is more to these romances than a couple of people searching for love after a devastating break. The Sun’s source claims Kardashian is unfazed believing it’s all a ruse done to get her attention. “She knows it’s not serious and is just typical hijinks from Kanye,” this person said. “Kim thinks it’s another desperate attempt to make her jealous. She honestly doesn’t care, she’s very over him at this point so his little game isn’t working.” (The fact that West had reportedly brought along a photographer to his dates was apparently proof enough for some that there was a grand plan behind this tryst, though another source said that West is documenting his life as a larger project, dates with indie starlets included.)

Page Six’s source does The Sun one better by claiming that West is still trying to get Kardashian back with the highly dubious method of showing up wherever she is. That’s allegedly what brought West to Miami, where he met Fox, and where Davidson hosted a New Year’s Eve performance with Miley Cyrus. The source said, “Kim had planned to go to Miami with Pete for New Year, but then Kanye was suddenly doing an impromptu show there.”

This person also claims that there was the last-minute reroute of the Kardashian and Davidson vacation as well. They intended to go the Dominican Republic but instead went to the Bahamas, according to sources. Neither the Kardashian camp nor the West camp have confirmed this rumor to Page Six and so we are left to stew in ambiguity.

Meanwhile, there is a side theory, one that isn’t mutually exclusive with the make-Kim-jealous theory, which states that Fox and West’s dates are somehow tied to fashion brand promotion, an idea supported by the fact that Fox wore head-to-toe Diesel to dinner at Craig’s in Los Angeles on Monday night. Diesel is the brand that filled a hotel room of clothes for their date last week, and this makes a second sighting of Diesel’s summer 2022 collection.

Are we to believe that West is simply out here dating with sound and fury, but ultimately signifying nothing? Or is there more of a grand scheme at work, for better or for worse? These are the things that keep us up at night.
