‘Today’ Show Fans Actually Did a Double Take After Seeing Dylan Dreyer’s New Hair

Dylan Dreyer has enjoyed every moment with her family during maternity leave. Now, the weather anchor is gearing up for her return to the Today show — but first, she sat down in a hairdresser’s chair for a quick trim and color appointment.

On September 29, Dylan and her husband, Brian Fichera, welcomed their son Russell “Rusty” James six weeks early. Since then, the NBC meteorologist and the NBC News cameraman have had their hands full being parents to Rusty and his older brothers — Calvin Bradley, 5, and Oliver George, 2. After spending their first holiday season together as a family of five (plus their dog, Bosco!), Dylan shared on Instagram that she was officially making her comeback to TV, kicking it off with new episodes of NBC’s documentary travel show Earth Odyssey.

“Bye bye maternity leave hair!! Welcome back bob! Dusting off the cobwebs and getting back in the saddle with a little @nbcearthodyssey,” she wrote on January 11. “Be back soon on @todayshow in a few weeks! Thanks @getrusso for working your magic…it needed it!!”

Without hesitation, the Today show star’s fans flooded the comments section to share their excitement about Dylan’s return. What’s more, folks expressed how much they love Dylan’s haircut.

“So pretty! Love the bob cut. Can’t wait to see you back on Today show. 😍,” another added. “Love it, you look wonderful, so glad to see you again. I have missed your beautiful smile 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️,” a different fan said. “Three kids and you look amazing!! Go Dylan!!” a follower commented.

Dylan’s fellow Today family also stopped in to show her some love. “She’s back!!!!! 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” Sheinelle Jones wrote. “Looking gorge!!” former cohost Natalie Morales added.

Speaking with Today Parents, the 40-year-old Misty the Cloud author revealed that Rusty’s early arrival threw her schedule off. “I was planning to get my hair done before my maternity leave started in November but when Rusty decided to arrive in September, it messed up my plan!” Dylan told the outlet. “So it was probably more than five months since I had my hair cut and highlighted.”

This time though, she made an unexpected discovery during her appointment that others might relate to. “I also noticed a lot of grays coming through…maybe the stress or lack of sleep, or turning 40. Either way, I was way overdue!”

Distinguished Kansan awards for 2021 include Pratt native Bill Farmer

GANNETT KANSAS recognized six individuals as Distinguished Kansans for 2021. Jason Sudeikis was chosen Kansan of the Year. Other individuals honored included: Bill Farmer, entertainment; Donna McClish, community; Sheinelle Jones, journalism; Hutchinson Community College football team, sports; Lois Smith, theater; Ximena Garcia, government.

Following are why they are being recognized today.

Bill Farmer, Entertainment

Nominated by The Pratt Tribune, Walt Disney’s “Goofy” grew up in Kansas. Voice actor and comedian Bill Farmer, a Pratt native, watched cartoons as a child, and when he moved to Hollywood, he auditioned for a role with Walt Disney Studios.

Since 1987, Farmer has depicted the voice of Goofy. He can also be heard as Pluto and Horace Horsecollar and is featured on several Disney films, including “Beauty and the Beast.” This September, Farmer, who graduated from Pratt High School in 1971, was inducted into the Greenback, Pratt High School, Hall of Fame.

In 2009, Farmer attained the Disney Legend award.

Donna McClish, Community

Donna McClish, an urban farmer in Wichita, believes everyone is family. With a motto of “All are fed. No one is hungry,” she starts her work each day buying from local farmers and dairies, boxing up their fresh vegetables, eggs and cheese and delivering the items to nursing homes and low-income residences in central Kansas.

McClish formed Common Ground Growers and Producers — the only group in Kansas that delivers fresh vegetables directly to seniors and low-income families. It is also the only mobile market in Kansas.

McClish, who grew up on a farm in Sedgwick County, said it is important for everyone to be at the table — including farmers.

Sheinelle Jones, Journalism

Journalist and Kansas native Sheinelle Jones enjoys helping others. As one of the co-hosts on NBC-TV’s “3rd Hour Today,” this Wichita Heights High School graduate brings her vivaciousness and wealth of knowledge to her audience.

On Dec. 19, her documentary “Stories We Tell: The Fertility Secret” aired. As executive producer of the documentary, which highlights stories of Black women’s infertility, her passion for helping women, especially women of color, was vital.

Jones hopes to educate women and their daughters about fibroids, which can strike any female, but according to Jones, may strike women of color disproportionately.

In November, Jones was inducted into Northwestern University’s hall of achievement.

Hutchinson Community College football team, Sports

Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons head football coach, Drew Dallas, led the Blue Dragons to a 17-2 record in two seasons, including a Jayhawk conference championship, Jayhawk playoff championship and NJCAA Div. I national championship win.

The national championship, gained in a 29-27 victory in June over Ephraim, Utah-based Snow College, was the program’s first in school history.

The Blue Dragons football program has numerous players leaping to the NCAA to continue their football journeys at schools such as Auburn, Buffalo, Coastal Carolina and UTSA.

Lois Smith, Theater

Native Topekan Lois Smith in September became the oldest person ever to win a Tony Award for acting.

Smith, 90, was born in Topeka in 1931 and spent the first 11 years of her life there. She received the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play for appearing as Margaret in “The Inheritance” at the 74th annual Tony Awards ceremony.

It was Smith’s first Tony Award and third Tony Award nomination during a long acting career, which has included appearing in various films.

Ximena Garcia, Government

Retired physician Ximena Garcia is being recognized for her work to spread awareness regarding COVID-19, particularly to Hispanics.

Garcia, of Topeka, was appointed in March as adviser on COVID-19 vaccine equity to Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly. She has worked with representatives from underrepresented populations and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to coordinate vaccine administration in socially vulnerable communities.

Since November, she has been the acting state health officer and Medicaid medical director.

Fans have been wondering via Twitter where the FOX29 reporter is today and why she hasn’t been on Good Day Philadelphia, a morning show she co-hosts with journalist Mike Jerrick.

Though there is no current information regarding her whereabouts, the last she did not appear on Good Morning Philadelphia was because she was on vacation in Atlantic City.

The last fans heard from the journalist was in a few posts she made on New Year’s Eve via her social media accounts.

Celebrating the arrival of 2022, Holley posted a festive photo of herself on Instagram, captioned: “2022 ain’t gonna sparkle by itself!✨😉✨ May you find a way to shine this year- no matter what it brings.

🤍 #HappyNewYear.”

On the same day, she posted a tribute to Betty White on her Facebook account. “I’m gonna say it again- why can’t we ever have a nice ending to a year? Seems like there’s always some bad news… even down to the last few hours. RIP Betty White.”

Who is Alex Holley?

Holley joined FOX 29 News as a co-host of Good Day Philadelphia in the summer of 2014.

She is a multi-award-winning journalist who previously worked at WMBF-TV in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina as a reporter and fill-in anchor for the station’s morning news shows.

She formerly worked at KOMU-TV in Columbia, Missouri, as an anchor, reporter, and producer.

In college, Holley majored in Sociology and minored in Spanish.

She also established the “SWIPES Make a Difference” community service initiative for students. The organization continues to assist college students in donating unwanted meal plans to local communities in need.

Travel is one of Alex’s favorite pastimes; she has been to more than 11 countries and is fluent in Spanish, having studied at the Universidad de Salamanca at the age of 13.

When did Alex Holley join Good Day Philadelphia?

In 2014, Holley took over for Philadelphia Sheinelle Jones, who departed Good Day Philadelphia to accept a position at Today after almost a decade at Fox 29.

Holley landed the coveted Good Day job after just three years as a reporter and fill-in morning host for the NBC affiliate in Myrtle Beach.

She won Jerrick over during her job interview when she sang Teddy Pendergrass’ 1979 song “Come on Over to My Place,” according to an interview with the Inquirer.

Longtime Hudson Valley, New York School Is Closing

Officials voted to redistrict and close a school in the Hudson Valley.

Tuesday night the Saugerties Central School District Board of Education approved redistricting of the school district. The plan will eliminate one school.

“Last spring, the Board of Education tasked me with creating a committee of stakeholders to help the District face the upcoming budget deficit as well as maintain and improve programming for all students. My administrative team and I met with faculty, staff, and parents/guardians to gather input on what the community valued most in our schools,” Saugerties Central School District Superintendent Kirk Reinhardt stated. “I firmly believe that our redistricting plan will help us to embrace and promote these core values.”

The plan will eliminate one school.

The plan will close Mt. Marion Elementary School on Glasco Turnpike in Saugerties.

For the fall of the 2022 school year, the Saugerties Central School District will be redistricted to comprise three elementary schools with grade configurations of Kindergarten through Grade 6.

“The committee researched three different K-6 models, and we believe this model best achieves the task set forth by the Board of Education in the spring of 2021, given the constraints we are working within,” Reinhardt added. “Please note that during our school redistricting process, we are redrawing elementary school boundaries to help balance enrollment and class size at each of the elementary schools. Although a preliminary redistricting map has been circulating, this is not the final map.”

I am confident we will rise again to this challenge.”
