Patrick Demsey has turned 56 years old today. He has been best known for his Grey’s Anatomy role, neurosurgeon Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd. The actor has often opened up about the times spent on the series’ set, especially with his co-star Ellen Pompeo. While he said goodbye to the show in 2015, the memories that he made along the way are cherished by his fans to date.

During one of his interviews with Entertainment Tonight in 2018, the actor was asked about his Grey’s Anatomy co-stars, especially Pompeo. Calling her “remarkable,” he reacted to her compliments as Pompeo had once called him “a tough act to follow.” He heaped praises over her while thanking her for the compliment. “That was a very special bond and we had a magic to our connection. That’s special and it started with the original cast, the length that it has as new people came in. It’s amazing that it’s continuing to affect so many people and is a strong point in so many people’s lives.” Stating further, he also added that the show has been “a part of television history.”

Dempsey also opened up on how many people were “inspired to become doctors” while watching the popular show Grey’s Anatomy and have been discovering the show since its global popularity. “It was a remarkable experience, and without that success, this wouldn’t have been possible,” Dempsey told Entertainment Tonight.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Ellen Pompeo shared love to former co-star Patrick Dempsey on Instagram, after he mimicked a memorable pose made famous by Ben Stiller in ‘Zoolander.’

Patrick Dempsey‘s former TV wife, Ellen Pompeo, popped up in the comments section of his hilarious Instagram post on Tuesday, January 11. Patrick, who used to star in Grey’s Anatomy as Derek Shepherd, opposite Ellen’s Meredith Grey, sat on the couch with his dog while striking the “Blue Steel” pose for the camera. For the uniformed, the “Blue Steel” pose is done by Ben Stiller in his 2001 comedy film Zoolander. Patrick perfectly nailed it by pursing up his lips and sucking his checks in, while keeping his eyes fixated on the camera.

Patrick captioned his post, “Happy Monday. Have a good one.” Ellen, 52, then shared some love to her deceased TV hubby with a sweet comment. “Blue steel and his sidekick,” the actress wrote.

As expected, Grey’s Anatomy fans went wild over Ellen and Patrick’s one-sided exchange. “Love you guys!!” one fan said, while another wrote, “my merder heart cannot.” Other commenters called on Patrick to make a full-time return to the hit ABC medical series, which was recently renewed for season 19. Ellen’s comment also got a whopping 7,000 likes, and counting, from their fans.

Patrick starred in the first 11 seasons of Grey’s, before his character Derek was killed from injuries sustained in a car accident. However, Patrick made an epic return to the series in season 17 when Derek popped up in a beach dream sequence of Meredith’s while she was in a coma from COVID. Other deceased characters like George O’Malley (T.R. Knight), Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh), and Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) also appeared on the beach to reunite with Meredith.

As we previously reported, ABC renewed Grey’s Anatomy for yet another season on January 10. This continues the show’s run as the longest-running primetime medical drama series. Ellen inked a new deal with ABC to return for season 19, according to THR, alongside fellow original stars Chandra Wilson (who plays Dr. Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (who plays Dr. Webber). ABC noted in its statement that season 19 will “explore the ever-expanding world of modern medicine through the eyes of beloved returning and new characters.”

Maine’s own Patrick Dempsey is of course a very famous actor, but for the last several years, he is also known for his charitable contributions. In 1997, Dempsey’s mother, Amanda, was diagnosed with cancer, and when she passed in 2014, he helped start the Patrick Dempsey Center at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. In 2009, Dempsey introduced the first Dempsey Challenge, which features cyclists, runners, and walkers. It has become an annual October event in the Lewiston area, raising millions of dollars over the years.

Also, today is his 56th birthday. Patrick Dempsey was born in Lewiston and grew up in the nearby towns of Turner and Buckfield. He of course is best known for his role as neurosurgeon Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd in Grey’s Anatomy, but I will always love him as Ronald Miller in “Can’t Buy Me Love”, one of my favorite ’80s movies. I actually remember living in Augusta when it came out, and walking to the theatre in town to see it the day it came out! He has been in quite a few hit films over the years, including “Outbreak”, “Scream 3”, “Sweet Home Alabama”, “Made of Honor”, “Valentine’s Day”, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”, and “Bridget Jones’s Baby” just to name a few.

He has been very gracious with the media here in Maine too (although we have yet to get him on The Z Morning Show!) He has appeared on our buddy Dan Cashman’s “Nite Show”, and has sat down for interviews with News Center, and many others to talk about his acting, his love of auto racing, and the Dempsey Foundation.

Patrick Mc Dreamy Dempsey’s birthday is today. Lately, he has been in the news for all the wrong reasons but today we will most definitely not talk about that. Now before Dempsey became everyone’s dream man by starring as Derek Shepherd in Grey’s Anatomy, he has done several movies and shows. There were a lot of romantic dramas and one of them was Sweet Home Alabama. Our story about Dempsey stems from this. You must remember reports of Nick Jonas’ proposal to Priyanka Chopra. As per People, he closed down a Tiffany & Co. store to buy the diamond ring to propose to her. Now that reminded us of a scene from Sweet Home Alabama where Dempsey did just the thing for Reese Witherspoon. Only difference being, the proposal happened inside the store in the movie.

In the movie, Patrick plays a political hopeful who goes down on his knees to propose to his girlfriend. It’s another story that while she is elated to accept the proposal, she doesn’t end up with him. We aren’t sorry that we spoiled the film here because there shouldn’t be anyone alive who hasn’t watched that film.
