Bengals and former Saints DB Eli Apple takes shots at New Orleans’ fans, food and coach
]
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Who Dat, Who Dey … Who He?
Former Saints cornerback Eli Apple, who if history is a guide soon will cost the Cincinnati Bengals dearly in the AFC Championship Game, took shots at New Orleans fans, food and Coach Sean Payton in a series of tweets late Sunday night.
Apple was cast out of Who Dat Nation after two unremarkable seasons in which he managed two interceptions in 25 games. The Saints were Apple’s second stop, after the New York Giants traded him away, a regretful acknowledgement that spending the 10th overall pick of the 2016 NFL draft on him had been unwise.
Apple also washed out from the Carolina Panthers, who cut him in October 2020 during another failed season in which he played only two games.
But Apple found another opportunity this year in the Cincinnati, where they say Who Dey(?). The Bengals signed Apple to a one-year contract and have held their breath every time an opposing quarterback drops back and glances in his direction.
As he basked Sunday night in his new team’s success, largely driven by former LSU stars Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase, Apple retweeted a video clip from the Bills-Chiefs game that showed Buffalo receiver Stefon Diggs delivering a hard tackle on a Kansas City fan who ran onto the field.
“This what I wanna do to them ravens saints and giants fans,” Apple tweeted.
He immediately added, “idk which fan base I hate more … prolly the Saints but it’s close wit the giants it’s a toss up.”

The reaction from Saints fans was swift, with one posting a doctored cartoon image of Homer Simpson dozing on a pillow wearing a Saints cap that was captioned, “How we sleep knowing you ain’t on our team anymore.”
Apple responded, “Who y’all QB? Y’all won’t win (expletive) for awhile till you find and coach Payton gone.”
The defensive back then added:
New Orleans is the dirtiest smelliest city and has the worst food ever 😂 it’s that swine and crawfish thts killin yall brains — Eli Apple (@EliApple) January 24, 2022
That 💩 nasty as hell I see why they be mad all day https://t.co/3qnn8055lO — Eli Apple (@EliApple) January 24, 2022
Now we don’t know where Apple sampled Louisiana gumbo to come away with such an impression. We only suspect that if a dining partner passed a bowl his direction, it likely went right through his hands.
Saints fans pelted Apple with a variety of responses, including a YouTube clip titled “Eli Apple getting burned compilation,” and many other replies not fit for a family website. Eventually, the cornerback who is no stranger to yellow flags held up a white one on behalf of his mother:

Eli Apple takes unnecessary shots at trio of Tide alums in social media post
]
Ohio State alums continue to take shots at Alabama football alums.
Eli Apple, a former Buckeye, sent unnecessary shots at Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith, and Julio Jones in a recent social media post.
Three years ago, Smith posted a status to Twitter on Apple.
“Every time I see Eli Apple 1-on-1, I shake my head.”
Apple, a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, played for the New Orleans Saints when Smith posted the message. He spent the first half of the season with the New York Giants, but the tension between him and Landon Collins (former Alabama safety) became too much. The Giants traded Apple to the Saints on Oct. 23, 2018, for a fourth-round pick and a seventh-round pick.
He did not have a successful second half of football in New Orleans. Apple got worked by some of the best wide receivers in the league, including Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Brandin Cooks, Cooper Kupp, Antonio Brown, and JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Smith made the post about Apple during his sophomore season with the Crimson Tide.
The 2014 national champion took three years to respond to someone who set the record for rookie receiving yards with the Philadelphia Eagles. Apple’s parting shot to Smith was, “He big mad because Jalen Hurts is his quarterback.” He took a shot at Julio Jones after the Titans lost to the Bengals last week. Ohio State won the 2015 CFP Semifinal matchup (Sugar Bowl) over Alabama, but the Crimson Tide handled Apple’s Alma mater in the 2021 CFP national title game (2020 season).
Lmao Jalen hurts his Qb he big mad still shaking his head https://t.co/b7GNZv6VrL — Eli Apple (@EliApple) January 24, 2022

Apple was in the NFC for five seasons (2016-20) against Julio Jones, but he could not stop him. Jones had four 1,000-yard seasons during Apple’s time between the Giants and Saints, including three straight years of 1,400+ yards from 2016-18.
Alabama fans do not like when other players attack their favorite athletes.
Apple is a cornerback for the Bengals, and he will face the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
Tide nation is pulling for Jarran Reed, Patrick Mahomes, and the Chiefs to handle Apple and Cincinnati.

The pass was intercepted, setting up the Bengals’ game-winning field goal as time expired.
With the game tied at 16 and the Tennessee Titans driving for a potential game-winning score on Saturday evening, former Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple broke up a pass intended for wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.
The ball briefly bounced in the air and was intercepted by linebacker Logan Wilson near midfield, giving the Cincinnati Bengals the ball back with 20 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
After a 19-yard pass from quarterback Joe Burrow to wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and two running plays to kill the clock, Cincinnati kicker Evan McPherson hit a 52-yard field goal as time expired to send the Bengals to the AFC Championship Game for the first time since the 1988 season.
Cincinnati will now take on the winner of Sunday’s game between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs on Jan. 30. Kickoff is set for 3:05 p.m. on CBS.

Kings guard Fox, a New Orleans native, defends the city from Eli Apple; Pelicans fans rejoice

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Sacramento Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox took to social media Monday to defend his New Orleans roots, much to the delight of Pelicans fans.

Fox did not use any words to deliver his message but fans we pumped to see his reply to disgruntled former Saint Eli Apple with a retro NBA gif of Russell Westbrook making a confused face.
Apple, who now plays defensive back for the Cincinnati Bengals, chose violence by taking random shots at the Saints, their fans, and the city of New Orleans on Twitter Sunday night. He also took shots at the Giants fanbase. Both are franchises he played for in short stints.

Sports fans and those with ties to the city took to social media to have fun at Apple’s expense in retaliation. Fox, Sacramento’s rising star couldn’t help but show love for his native city.
Later in life, Fox’s family moved to Houston where he played his high school ball, but Fox has never forgotten where he came from.
The show of love lit up the Pelicans fanbase who are hoping their favorite franchise can land a decent size fish using assets and a stockpile of draft picks before the deadline arrives on Feb. 10.
The Kings have made it known that they’d be willing to offer one of their several highly coveted guards in a trade.
Recently, the Pelicans have sent scouts to Kings games as they possibly plot a trade.

Fox currently averages 21 points per game and 5 assists per game. He fits the bill for a Pelicans team trying to make the play-in and currently sitting two games back of No. 10 in the West. Adding a player on the cusp of stardom to help direct traffic and improve guard play could be what the Pelicans need.
Sacramento has slipped further down the Western Conference standings, two full spots behind the Pelicans at No. 11. Now under interim head coach Alvin Gentry, the ship doesn’t seem like it will be righted for the Kings soon.
For fans in New Orleans, it would be a dream to bring home one of their own.
