The film is expected to be released in December.
While he was here also filmed a public service announcement urging people to take care of the land for the Department of Land and Natural Resources Malama Hawaii campaign that focuses on caring the Hawaii’s cultural and natural resources.
The Hawai’i State Film Office asked him and Warner Bros. Pictures to produce the PSA.

“They were eager to do this,” said State Film Commissioner Donne Dawson. “The film industry is critical to the economy in Hawai’i and we always want to make sure, particularly when they are shooting on state lands such as at Mānoa Falls, they understand and appreciate the importance of caring for our natural and cultural resources. Jason obviously understands this, so this was not a big ask of him and Warner Bros.”
Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom: Production Wrapped, Release Date and Cast
]
Good news for DC fans as on of their favorite Zack Synder’s Justice League characters is all set to return for his second solo adventure. Aquaman 2 titled Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom would see the return of Aquaman as the King of Atlantis. This would be the 13th entry in the DC Extended Universe and it seems like it will indeed arrive on time!
Aquaman 2 Production Wraps
The production for the sequel of James Wan’s Aquaman has officially been wrapped. According to an Instagram post from director/producer James Wan, the production of the film has wrapped and pretty quickly at that. The shooting began sometime during October 2021 and it seems like within 3 months they’ve shot what they wanted to.
In the Instagram post, James Wan is seen celebrating with Jason Mamoa (Aquaman) and Patrick Wilson (King Norm/Ocean Master). The famous horror director blessed the world of cinema with one of the most extravagant and massively scaled film Aquaman in 2018. 4 years later he is back with the much-awaited sequel, and it seems to be in full swing.
“A THOUSAND THANK YOUs to all the incredible crew who worked so hard and tirelessly on this picture. Especially the UK portion where we shot 95% of the film. Truly some of the finest artisans and craftspeople I’ve had the good fortune to work with. And big shout-outs to the amazing Hawaiian and Los Angeles units”, said James Wan.
Aquaman 2 Release Date and Cast
Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is all set to release worldwide on December 16, 2022 and seems like it will be on time. Since the shooting is over now, post-production of the film is what’s left. Keeping in mind how CGI heavy and epic Aquaman 2018 was, the post-production will take quite a bit of time. But since the release is almost 11 months away, we can expect it to release on time.
As for Aquaman 2’s cast, Jason Mamoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman will all reprise their roles from Aquaman. That aside, Randall Park (Dr. Stephen Shin), Vincent Regan (Atlan), Jani Zhao (Stingray), Indya Moore (Karshon), and Pilou Asbæk (undisclosed role) will also be joining the cast.
Aquaman will be the 3rd DCEU film to release in 2022 after Black Adam (29th July) and The Flash (4th November). Apart from DCEU, Robert Pattison starrer The Batman is all set to release on 4th March 2022. So, it is going to be a great year for DC fans.

Muad’Dib and Sherlock Holmes

Dune (Warner Bros., Blu-ray + DVD, PG-13, 155 min.). Director Denis Villeneuve (“Blade Runner 2049”) had wanted to direct a faithful version of Frank Herbert’s “Dune” since he was a young man. Once he got his chance, he decided to divide the film into two parts – part two has been given the green light – which actually is a bit fitting, as “Dune” was initially published as a two-part series in Analog magazine in 1963 and 1965. The beloved novel won the first Nebula Award for Best Novel (1965) and the Hugo Award (1966).
Villeneuve’s version is beautiful and detailed in its presentation of the desert world of Arrakis, home of the giant sandworms, the Fremen desert tribes and the only source of spice mélange, which enhances the mental capacity of humans, including the mutated navigators who “fold” space, making near-instantaneous space travel possible. It does away with the camp elements of the Harkonnens in David Lynch’s 1984 film.
Due to his jealousy of the growing popularity of Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac), the emperor has turned over control of Arrakis, aka Dune, to House Atreides, knowing full-well that the former controlling house, led by Baron Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgard), will use force to wrest it back.
The central figures of the tale are the Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), Duke Leo’s official concubine and mother of his son, Paul (Timothée Chalamet of “Call Me by Your Name”). Paul, who has been trained in some of the Bene Gesserit ways of his mother, has been having prescience dreams of Arrakis and a beautiful woman named Chani (Zendaya). Paul, who is quickly looked upon by some on Arrakis as the prophesized savior, Muad’Dib, is surrounded by trainers and protectors Duncan Idaho (Jason Mamoa) and Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin).
There are 12 bonus featurettes, the most interesting of which are on the detailed production design of the buildings (6:26), filming Paul and Gurney’s training sessions (5:07) and designing the ornithopter (5:38). There also is a piece on the music by Hans Zimmer (11:12), which recently won a Golden Globe. Grade: film 3.75 stars; extras 3 stars
Rating guide: 5 stars = classic; 4 stars = excellent; 3 stars = good; 2 stars = fair; dog = skip it
The Sherlock Holmes Vault Collection (1931-37, The Film Detective, 4 Blu-rays, NR, 299 min.). Three of these four newly-restored Sherlock Holmes films star Arthur Wontner as Holmes and were made by Britain’s Twickenham Studios. All four films work in Professor Moriarty as the main antagonist.
In “Sherlock Holmes’ Fatal Hour” (1931, 81 min.), a woman thinks her brother is cheating at high-stakes bridge games, which leads to his being blackmailed by Moriarty into smuggling stolen cash into France, as he has a diplomatic passport. Ian Fleming (called Jan here; not the James Bond author) plays Dr. John Watson in all three Wontner films. The film is adapted from the stories “The Final Problem” and “The Empty Hour.” Extras include audio commentary by Jennifer Churchill; the first of a three-part reminiscence by Sam Sherman on seeing the films on NYC TV in the 1950s (7:40); a radio broadcast of “Sherlock Holmes and the Blue Carbuncle” with Mark Redfield as Holmes (39:47); two different prints of 1918’s “Black Sherlock Holmes” (14:38/13:24); and a 38-second “Sherlock Holmes Baffled,” made for arcade viewing in 1900. The booklet essay is by Don Stradley.
The weakest film here is “The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes” (1935, 75 min.). Lynn Harding takes over as Professor Moriarty, who is behind a murder attempt. Midway through, there are two long flashbacks to America and an undercover agent infiltrating the Scourers Society of thieves and murderers. There is too little of Holmes in the film, which is based on “The Valley of Fear.” A good extra is “Blind Man’s Bluff,” a 1964 TV episode with Ronald Howard as Holmes and chicken claw warnings (26:29), There also is 1912’s “The Copper Beeches” (19:09) and liner notes and audio commentary by Jason A. Ney.
“Silver Blaze” (1837, 71 min.), aka “Murder at the Baskervilles,” concerns the abduction of a racing horse, while Holmes and Watson are visiting Sir Baskerville 20 years after “The Hound of the Baskerville.” Extras include a Felix the Cat cartoon (1928, 7:38); 1913’s “Cousins of Sherlock” (9:47); audio commentary by Phoef Sutton and Mark Jordan Legan; and an essay by Stradley.
The final film, “A Study in Scarlet” (1933, 72 min.), with a completely made-up plot, has Reginald Owen as Holmes and Warburton Gamble as Dr. Watson. A dead man is found on a train, the first of several deaths among the Scarlet Ring, whose members are to divide the wealth of each deceased member among themselves. The film has Holmes in disguise and a secret passageway. Extras include a look at the early cinematic adventures of Holmes (26:29) and a 1926 Mutt & Jeff cartoon (7:15). Grade: set 3 stars

“Hi! Just stopping by to throw a hissy-fit about the filibuster!” ANNA MONEYMAKER / GETTY
Hello everybody, especially those of you with a seven-foot frame and rats along your back. Would you like to know what’s happening out there? TOO BAD, I’m gonna tell you anyway!
IN LOCAL NEWS:
• The Oregon Health Authority held a press conference about the Omicron surge and said that we shouldn’t worry, because they’re getting so many tests right now. Just like, SO many, you wouldn’t even believe it. Tons. This is little comfort to the thousands of people who would like a test but can’t get one. (Hi.)
“In total, we have received 982,800 test kits to date. The manufacturer tells us another 982,800 test kits will arrive in Oregon within the next 7 days. We expect to have all 6 million test kits in the state by the end of January.” January 13, 2022
• Speaking of COVID, if you are able to get an appointment to get tested locally (good luck!) make sure it’s legit! The national company Center for COVID Control is now in hot water for allegedly offering bunk tests and/or phony results. It seems that the national guidance to “google COVID test near me” may have been lacking?
• Multnomah County’s new-ish District Attorney Mike Schmidt is cited as the reason for the recent resignation of Multnomah County prosecutor Amber Kinney. Kinney’s SEVEN PAGE resignation letter states: “In the last year and a half, not only has the forward progress women made in our office ceased, but under your leadership women have been set back decades. I’m unsure whether this failure is due to intentional gender discrimination on your part, or whether your implicit bias is running unchecked.” You can read the whole letter here. DAMN!
What I know is the disappointment expressed in Kinney’s resignation letter is shared by many others still working in the DA’s office. https://t.co/lDgJzkF6fm
— Alex Zielinski (@alex_zee) January 13, 2022
DOUBLE DAMN.
IN NATIONAL NEWS:
• The Supreme Court, which is held by a majority of Justices who were nominated by presidents who did not win the popular vote, today ruled that President Biden’s vaccine mandates for large employers are unconstitutional, because, basically, “people are exposed to all sorts of bullshit at work that we can’t or won’t prevent, so why should COVID be any different? What’s next, reducing pollution? Making it so people don’t get randomly shot??” (I paraphrase.)
• In another not-win for President Biden, sounds like his plan to eliminate the filibuster and tilt the United States closer to a place where votes matter is DOA. Senators Manchin and Sinema have thrown themselves onto their backs kicking and screaming and refusing to help anyone or anything—and so the tantrums have won the day, and possibly all future days.
• GOSSIP: Lisa Bonet and Jason Mamoa recently announced their separation. As two halves of the most most attractive couple of all time, anybody that each of them dates next will automatically be less attractive, which means that perhaps any one of us has a chance? Remember feeling hope? Now you have some!
