To the 19th Annual Grammy Awards, Dolly Parton wore a bright pink cowgirl-esque look that would define her signature style.

Dolly Parton has been nominated for an impressive 50 Grammys and has won 10. In 1977, she attended the 19th Annual Grammy Awards, where she won the award for best country vocal performance, female, for “All I Can Do.”

For the occasion, Parton wore a bright, bubblegum pink look with white detailing and crystals. The wide-sleeve blouse, vest, and flared pants paid homage to classic country singers.

In a December 3, 2020, interview with Allure, Parton reminisced over her style throughout the decades. Of the ’70s, she said, “I didn’t actually start getting into the rhinestones and the frills, as far as, uh, as an entertainer, until I started with ‘The Porter Wagoner Show.’”

Parton left the show as a cast member in 1974 to pursue a solo career, but the experience continued to inform her signature style.

Dolly Parton Celebrates 76th Birthday with Ice Cream, Shares Bonus Track Off Upcoming Album

To celebrate Dolly Parton’s 76th year on earth, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is relaunching its signature Dolly flavor, Strawberry Pretzel Pie, and an exclusive extended version of Parton’s new album, Run, Rose, Run, a companion to the upcoming novel she co-authored with James Patterson, out March 7.

Fans who pre-order Parton’s upcoming, 12-track album, Run Rose Run, out March 4, on the jenis.com for $8 will get an exclusive 13th song, “Rose of My Heart,” originally a bonus track on Parton’s 2008 album Backwoods Barbie.

In addition to the new music, Jeni’s has relaunched the limited edition Strawberry Pretzel Pie flavor, salty pretzel streusel, cream cheese ice cream, and strawberry sauce, inspired by the “Queen of Country” and first launched in April of 2021 shortly after Parton’s 75th birthday.

Proceeds from the sales of Strawberry Pretzel Pie will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, inspired by her father’s inability to read. To date, the organization has given nearly 173 million free books to kids ages 5 and younger in the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and Ireland.

Born Jan. 19, 1946, in Sevier County, Tennessee, the eight-time Grammy winner continues to run her Dollywood theme park, in addition to Imagination Library and other philanthropic endeavors.

Parton recently released new singles “Big Dreams and Faded Jeans,” off her upcoming 48th album Run Rose Run.

“So many people come to Nashville with their sack of songs,” said Parton in a statement. “Whether they’re running from anything or not, they’re running towards a future. That’s what ‘Big Dreams and Faded Jeans’ is all about. I am so pleased to finally share the first song from this exciting new album with all of you!”

Dolly Parton’s rarely seen husband of 55 years and her chance reunion with real Jolene

Dolly Parton’s ‘homebody’ husband Carl has shied away from showbiz and forged his own career despite his wife’s millions - and Dolly recently bumped into the flirty bank clerk who inspired her song Jolene, though the name actually came from an eight-year-old fan

Dolly Parton’s rarely seen husband of 55 years and her chance reunion with real Jolene

Jolene is one of Dolly Parton’s most famous songs, as the country crooner begs a mysterious red-headed woman not to “take her man”.

And it was based on a true story - Dolly has previously explained Jolene was a real clerk at a bank near to where Dolly and her husband Carl Dean lived.

She was very flirty with Carl, and a furious Dolly penned the song that would make her millions - before banning her husband from visiting that branch.

“A lot of my songs are based on some truth and Jolene was about a girl that was flirting with my husband back then,” she once explained.

“She was working down at the bank and he was spending a little more time down there than he should. So I put a stop to that!

“I wrote the song about Jolene and I did a lot of banking after that, but not with her bank.”

But despite having been married to Carl for 55 years, the ghost of Jolene still lingers - with Dolly admitting she still checks his personal items for any signs of contact between him and her love rival.

Dolly, who turns 76 on Wednesday, told The Sun: “I was looking through his address book the night before we renewed our vows.

“I thought, I’m gonna see if he’s still got Jolene’s number.”

And since then she’s actually run into the woman herself, joking that the experience helped heal all her longtime insecurities.

“Just so you know, I did see the actual Jolene not long ago. She’s not so hot now,” Dolly said on US TV.

“She used to have that beautiful red hair, and now she’s grey. She used to have a little tight butt. Now, it’s a tight spot getting her butt through that door now.”

Laughing, she added: “She used to wear a D-cup - now she’s wearing Depends.”

As for Carl, the singer has quipped that if Jolene still wants her ageing husband, she’s welcome to him.

“Every time I look at him sleeping over there in his La-Z-Boy, snoring, that hair turning grey at the temples, I wonder if Jolene is still around. I’ll call her up and say, ‘You come and get him now!’” she teased.

But the truth is, Dolly and Carl are dedicated to each other, and she likely never had anything to worry about.

In fact, Carl has said he knew he wanted to marry Dolly the moment he met her in a not-so-glamorous setting.

They first laid eyes on each other outside a laundromat in Nashville in 1964, and it was love at first sight for Carl.

“My first thought was I’m going to marry that girl,” Carl once said of the meeting.

“My second was, ‘Lord she’s good lookin.’ And that was the day my life began.”

Carl, then 21, caught her attention by joking that she was going to get sunburn in her revealing outfit.

The pair married two years later in a small ceremony in Ringgold, Georgia in 1966, with only Dolly’s mother as a witness.

Dolly’s music career was soon to take off as she signed with Monument Records soon after, going on to sell more than 100 million records worldwide.

But fame wasn’t something Carl wanted or enjoyed, and he instead chose to live a quiet life on their sprawling farm, running a paving firm until his recent retirement.

“Listen, he’s a homebody and doesn’t like to go out in public,” Dolly previously told The Mirror.

“We have a farm and he’s more than happy keeping the fields mowed, the barns painted and working away on his farm equipment.”

In fact, the singer describes her husband as a “loner”.

“He doesn’t particularly care about being around anybody but me. He’s just always asked me to leave him out of all this. He does not like all the hullabaloo,” she explained.

In an interview back in 1978, Dolly said her husband had “no desire to be in show business”.

“He don’t want to have his picture in the paper. He don’t want to go out to the supermarket and have people say, ‘That’s Dolly Parton’s husband,’” she said.

For his 79th birthday last year, Dolly famously recreated her legendary 1978 Playboy photoshoot for him, dressing up in a bunny outfit and framing a copy of the cover she graced.

Many people have tried to track the real Jolene down over the years - but Dolly has revealed she changed her name in the lyrics, making her even more elusive.

So where did she get the name Jolene from?

Dolly says it was actually from a child - an eight-year-old fan who asked her for an autograph after a show.

“She had this beautiful red hair, this beautiful skin, these beautiful green eyes, and she was looking up at me,” said Dolly.

“I said, ‘Well, you’re the prettiest little thing I ever saw. So what is your name?’ And she said, ‘Jolene’.

“And I said, ‘Jolene. Jolene. Jolene. Jolene… That is pretty. That sounds like a song. I’m going to write a song about that.’”

And Dolly laughed all the way to the bank - but not the one Jolene worked at.

Happy 76th Birthday Dolly Parton!

img]

Today is the birthday of a person who truly has become, and is, a National Treasure!

She is a country music icon. She is a talented actress. She is an incredible business woman and an entrepreneur. She created the Imagination Library so young kids could have books to read. And by all accounts, she is one of the nicest human beings on the planet.

Yes, I am talking about Dolly Parton.

This human barbie doll turns 76 today, and we do not deserve her. We really don’t. I have said it before and I will say it again. I have not had the honor of seeing her in concert, or meeting her. My uncle has, and this is the story he told me:

He was on a first class flight on Delta Airlines. He was an employee of the airline at the time. Dolly was seated in front of him. He wanted to talk to her, but decided for the moment to leave her alone. Word spread through the plane pretty fast that Dolly was on the flight. Understandably, people wanted to get the autograph of the country star, and perhaps engage with her even for a moment. Dolly was so generous with her time, and signed every autograph and talked to each and every person who came up to see her. Everyone. She treated each person with respect and kindness that she is so well known for. We wish all celebrities could be like this, don’t we?

This humanitarian has given us so much, including help to fund the research and development of the COVID-19 vaccine. 25 #1 hits on the country charts. She has 44 career Top 10 country albums, a record for any artist. 11 Grammy Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award. 10 CMA’s including Entertainer of the Year, 5 ACM’s, 4 People’s Choice Awards, and 3 AMA’s. In 1999, she became a Country Music Hall of Famer.

So wish Dolly a Happy Birthday today. She has given us so much, in so many ways. It is the least we could do. Now I am going to plan my vacation to visit Dollywood.
