One of the more popular Adam Sandler movies recently dropped on Netflix and it’s one of the 10 most-watched films on the streaming service. The Longest Yard made its way onto Netflix and ranks No. 3 on its top 10 list of movies. The football comedy is behind Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and Don’t Look Up.

The Longest Yard was released in 2005 and is a remake of the 1974 film that has the same name. Sandler stars as Paul Crewe, a former NFL quarterback who is accused of shaving points. After being placed on federal probation for five years, Crew gets drunk and goes joyriding in his girlfriend’s car, leading him to be arrested and sent to prison for three years.

While in prison, Crewe is forced to assemble a football team to play against the guards. The Longest Yard also stars, Chris Rock, Nelly, Bob Sapp, Courteney Cox, Terry Crews, Bill Goldberg, Tracy Morgan, Michael Irvin and Burt Reynolds who starred in the 1974 version. The movie earned just a 31% score on Rotten Tomatoes but grossed nearly $200 million worldwide.

“The first couple of days it was unbelievable,” Goldberg said in a 2005 interview with CommingSoon.Net. “We were trying to kill each other. You had actors that had played football, World League guys and NFL Europe guys that play now who are hot to trot. They wanted to hit somebody. The first thing I did was get into an Oklahoma drill, one on one live with somebody. That was the first day! It was awesome. The first time I hit somebody it was great.”

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin also appeared in the film and shared his experience working with Sandler. “It was really cool, Austin said in a 2005 interview with IGN. T"hat guy is a huge star. He’s super funny and I’m a big fan, but I’d be doing my scenes, and he would come out and have me try different things. He’s an A-list celeb and yet he took the time to help me out. He’s a big wrestling fan.” Sandler has starred in and produced several sports movies in his career, including Happy Gilmore, The Benchwarmers, Uncut Gems, Home Team (to be released this month) and Hustle, which is set to be released this year.

Adam Sandler, Pete Davidson, Full House Cast And More Pay Tribute To Bob Saget

It’s never a positive experience when a beloved celebrity passes away unexpectedly, and it somehow feels even worse when the late entertainer was one of the funniest and most beloved comedians out there. Such is the case with Full House vet Bob Saget, who unexpectedly passed away on January 9 at the age of 65. Details surrounding the death are still unclear, but what’s abundantly clear is that the sitcom icon made an impact on many people’s lives, from audiences watching at home to his various co-stars ( like the Olsen twins ) to those lucky enough to have befriended him over the years.

Soon after the news of Bob Saget’s death was made public, the Internet was awash in condolence-filled messages and tributes to the comedian. Not merely for his work in the industry, but often for his impact as a friend and/or mentor. Adam Sandler, who appeared in the Saget-directed Dirty Work, shared the following thoughts, complete with a shot of their respective pal Norm Macdonald (whom Saget mourned heavily after the SNL alum’s death ).

Great man. Funny as hell. Such a nice person. Love to Bob and his whole family pic.twitter.com/qP5RvpM9anJanuary 10, 2022 See more

Another comedian known for his work on Saturday Night Live (among other things), Pete Davidson, also reached out via friend and SNL colleague Dave Sirus’ Instagram with some kind words about Bob Saget regarding the younger comedian’s mental health struggles over the years.

Just wanted you guys to know that Bob Saget was one of the nicest men on the planet. When I was younger and several times throughout our friendship he helped me get through some rough mental stuff. He stayed on the phone with my mom for hours trying to help in anyway he can — connecting us with doctors and new things we can try. He would check in on me and make sure I was okay. I love you Bob. It was an honor to know you. Thank you for your kindness and friendship. My condolences to the family. Pete Davidson

Bob Saget’s Full House and Fuller House family members have also shared several messages across social media, with John Stamos just as shocked as anyone that his friend and former co-star has passed, saying on Twitter:

I am broken. I am gutted. I am in complete and utter shock. I will never ever have another friend like him. I love you so much Bobby. John Stamos

Candace Cameron-Bure spent many years playing Saget’s daughter D.J. Tanner across both Full House and its follow-up Netflix series. The two continued nurturing that father-daughter relationship off-screen as well, and this loss has hit the Hallmark actress in a big way.

Comedian Dave Coulier, who starred as the wisecracking Joey Gladstone on Full House, was not in a wisecracking mode in sharing the message below on Twitter:

My heart is broken. I love you, Bob. Your forever brother, Dave. Dave Coulier

Outside of the Full House world, How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor shared a long and heartfelt series of messages about Bob Saget, who portrayed an older version of Radnor’s Ted as the hit sitcom’s narrator. With each of the tweets definitely worth the time to scroll through, Radnor started his tribute by saying:

Bob Saget was the older wiser ‘me’ for nine years on How I Met Your Mother. He was the kindest, loveliest, funniest, most supportive man. The easiest person to be around. A mensch among mensches. 1/7January 10, 2022 See more

Bob Saget had a part in the prequel Dumb And Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, and somehow not one of the two core films, which feels like an oversight on somebody’s part. Nevertheless, fellow comedian Jim Carrey joined in sharing the love for Saget and his positive energy.

Beautiful Bob Saget passed away today at 65. He had a big, big heart and a wonderfully warped comic mind. He gave the world a lot of joy and lived his life for goodness’ sake. :’^} pic.twitter.com/QVSITsfaVjJanuary 10, 2022 See more

The fact that these are only a small helping of the myriad tributes and loving posts out there dedicated to Bob Saget is proof that the TV star and stand-up comedian was truly one of the best in the biz, with his Comedy Central Roast from 2008 still serving as an A+ celebration of his work and influential nature.

Hawaii’s film industry keeps booming through COVID

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A highly anticipated Netflix film is starting production in Hawaii this week: Murder Mystery 2 starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler.

Many in the industry are hoping omicron won’t press pause on production.

The film industry is going through massive lengths to keep outbreaks from happening, among other protocols background actors are quarantined in Hawaii hotels for five days and undergoing testing every day before production began.

“All those combinations of factors together, are now proving that we can have this industry,” Hawaii State Film Commissioner Donne Dawson said. “We can move forward with a real strong economic driver for our state at a time when we desperately need it.”

As COVID spreads in the islands there have been some hiccups in the film industry, but according to Dawson nothing major so far. Actress Rachel Parker used to live in the islands and flew out from Los Angeles recently to film as a background actress, but her shoot was canceled due to COVID.

“I got cast in December for a role,” Parker said. “We went in first fitting did a COVID test at all that they changed the date a couple of times. But 45 minutes before checking into the hotel for our quarantines. They canceled us. So I’m very disappointed and bummed out about this about losing days of work and about something able to work on the movie,”

The film industry created $423 million in direct spending in Hawaii in 2021. It also created about 5,000 jobs.

Currently, NCIS Hawaii and Magnum P.I. are coming back to finish filming their seasons sometime this spring. Murder Mystery 2 is in production. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom wrapped-up filming with Jason Momoa, which is scheduled for a December release.

“He’s going to be back with more work for Hawaii,” Dawson said. “He’s got some very exciting projects in the future that that he’ll be back here to film and so we’re we’re just in a very strong state of growth for our film industry right now.”

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania: Sandler-free sequel sinks series to new low

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (PG, 88mins) Directed by Jennifer Kluska and Derek Drymon **

You know a franchise is in trouble when even Adam Sandler and Kevin James decide they’ve had enough. Remember, this is the duo who thought Grown Ups 2 was a good idea.

Even the biggest box office of the trilogy couldn’t persuade the comedians to return, after 2018’s Summer Vacation marked a definite step down in the animated adventure’s quality and consistency of laughs.

While the rest of the vocal cast still boasts a deep bench of talent, from WandaVision’s Kathryn Hahn to Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Fran Drescher and Steve Buscemi, they are rather poorly served by the trio of writers who include series creator Genndy Tartakovsky, who vacated directorial duties for the first time to allow Cat Dog’s Derek Drymon and Wild Kratt’s Jennifer Kluska to take the helm.

Transformania’s main problem stems from reducing one of the series’ strengths – the supporting characters – to just a few lines each, as the story essentially becomes a two-handed globetrotting buddy comedy featuring Sandler-replacement Brian Hull’s Drac and his human son-in-law Johnny (Samberg).

Their misadventures begin when the former is persuaded by daughter Mavis (Gomez) to let Johnny help organise the eponymous hotel’s 125th anniversary celebrations.

Determined to include everyone and deliver an over-the-top spectacular, it all goes rather pear-shaped and leaves Drac having to literally put out fires in order to ensure things continue to run smoothly.

Supplied Transformania’s main problem stems from reducing one of the series’ strengths – the supporting characters – to just a few lines each, as the story essentially becomes a two-handed globetrotting buddy comedy.

It also makes him have serious second thoughts about a major announcement he has been teasing for some time now. Girlfriend Erica (Hahn) had persuaded him to retire and hand over the business to Mavis and Johnny and “start a new chapter” of his own, but the prospect of the establishment undergoing a “full Johnny makeover” is already filling him with dread, especially after Johnny guesses what is coming.

So, it is fear, more than anything, that drives Drac’s replacement announcement that the hotel will be adding a new restroom to the lobby. Anger and disappointment follows, especially from the two main women in his life, with Drac attempting to explain his decision away to discovering a “very ancient, very serious” property law which means Jonny cannot be an owner of the hotel because he is not a monster.

Supplied Hotel Transylvania: Transformania is a sickly sweet confection that surely spells the end of this now decade-long series.

Having overheard their conversation, Van Helsing (Jim Gaffigan) offers a solution in the form of his Monsterfication ray. After a literal guinea pig trial, Jonny is delighted with his new look and eager to show it off.

However, the reaction isn’t exactly what he expects, Drac’s attempts to reverse it go horribly wrong, and its effects start to become dangerously unstable and potentially unalterable.

Supplied Johnny’s (Andy Samberg) desire to be accepted is what drives Hotel Transylvania: Transformania’s narrative.

Transformania works best in the moments where the traditional Universal creatures are de-monstered. Frank’s reinvention as a Joey Tribbiani-style looker, werewolf Wayne’s recalibration as a bearded hipster and Blobby’s transformation back into a plate of jello provide moments of genuine laughter, but they are too few and far between.

Instead, we have to endure Drac’s battles with sunburn, blisters and swampfoot, as he and Johnny journey through South America, bond and discover their mutual “inner-gooeyness”. The result is a sickly sweet confection that surely spells the end of this now decade-long series.

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
