Keala Settle Heads to West End to Join Cast of ‘& Juliet’

“Did my heart love til now?” Romeo asks in Shakespeare’s classic love story. Well, if it didn’t, it will now: Keala Settle is joining the cast of & Juliet! This musical romp has been a smash West End show for a few years now, but Americans are now getting extra invested in the production as one of our own superstars is heading across the pond to join the London company. Keala Settle — a Broadway alum, the sassy Becky in the original cast of Waitress, and the belting voice behind the Academy Award-nominated song “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman — will play Angelique/The Nurse in the West End hit musical.

Settle, who has played Madame Thenardier in Les Misérables and Norma in Hands on a Hardbody on Broadway, will play the chatty, nurturing Nurse from March 29 to June 18, 2022.

& Juliet reimagines the ending of Shakespeare’s tragedy, asking what if Juliet Capulet didn’t die but instead ran off to Paris with her friends May and Angelique to commence a journey of self-actualization. The smash West End show is a jukebox musical featuring songs by Max Martin, including pop hits such as “I Want it That Way,” “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” “Teenage Dream,” “Roar,” and “Can’t Stop the Feeling” as introduced by megastars such as Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, and others. Luke Sheppard directs, Jennifer Weber choreographs, and David West Read contributes the book.

Settle takes over a role originated on the West End by Melanie La Barrie. & Juliet opened at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 2019. The production received nine Laurence Olivier Awards nominations, winning three for performers Miriam-Teak Lee, Cassidy Janson, and David Bedella as Juliet, Anne, and Lance, respectively. The production closed on March 16, 2020, due to COVID, and then reopened on September 24, 2021.

Settle has been seen in films such as Ricky and the Flash, All My Life, and Rent: Live, in which she sang the solo part in “Seasons of Love.”

Centaurworld Season 3 Plot:

Horse dives into the Nowhere King’s head and becomes locked there in the season 2 finale of ‘Centaurworld.’ Horse is taken to her past, where secrets are slowly disclosed and the reality of her existence is shown to her, while Rider and Horse’s other friends strive to bring her back. The horse is on the verge of losing hope in the last moments of the season, but her pals discover a solution to save her. The horse begins to embrace her existence as the second edition comes to a close.

The third season of ‘Centaurworld’ will almost certainly send Horse, Rider, and the rest of the cast on another exciting and soul-searching journey. The horse has grown out of her homesickness and has developed a strong attachment to her new buddies. If the show is recommissioned, we should expect to see greater character development in the following season.

Horse stars Kimiko Glenn as a brave warhorse who is separated from her rider and finds herself in Centaurworld, a mysterious sanctuary.

She was born and raised in the Lost Forest, which was tragically destroyed after a sad battle.

Sophia Lewis portrays Baby Wammawink.

Zulius, a flamboyant and effeminate zebra-like centaur who can shapeshift his mane magically and is openly gay, is played by Parvesh Cheena.

Chris Diamantopoulos portrays Ched, a caustic and vicious centaur with a sparrow-like appearance. He is enraged by the horse and pledges vengeance.

Roman Engel portrays Ched as a child.

Megan, Glendale, is a neurotic and kleptomaniac gerenuk-like centaur played by Nicole Dong who can store an infinite quantity of items in a pocket universe buried in her stomach.

Isabella Russo portrays young Glendale.

Durpleton, a sweet and innocent giraffe-like centaur, is played by Josh Radnor.

He’s the gentlest of the group.

Her resume’s other iconic characters include Alex Munday in Charlie’s Angels, Joan Watson in Elementary, and O-Ren Ishii in Kill Bill: Vol 1. As a visual artist, she showed her work in various galleries and includes photography, painting, and the use of found objects. Additionally, Lucy is a UNICEF Ambassador, joining missions across the globe in Lesotho, Peri, Russia, Pakistan, and Lebanon. This includes Jules Shaw in Sorry for Your Loss, Kaitlin Le in Passenger List, and voicing Raya in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon.

Sophia Taylor Ramseyer Ali

Sophia Taylor Ramseyer Ali is an American actress with Pakistani heritage and one of the sexiest Asian women. Most people will recognize her work as Fatin Jadmani in The Wilds, Dr. Dahlia Qadri in Grey’s Anatomy, and Sabrina in MTV’s Faking It. She will also appear as Chloe Frazer in the adventure film Uncharted alongside Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.

Kimiko Glenn

Both the screen and stage are the professional home for American actress Kimiko Glenn. Having been acting on stage since school, her first role was in the touring cast for the rock musical Spring Awakening. Five years later, she played Brook Soso on Orange Is the New Black, followed by a supporting role in Nerve. If bad-ass babes are your vibe, then Babymetal’s Suzuka Nakamoto is definitely one of the sexiest Asian women. She’s known by her stage name Su-metal and is one of the original members of the Japanese band. Their style is described as kawaii metal and features J-Pop vocals backed by heavy music. The group has toured the world, appearing alongside bands like Korn and Stone Sour. Plus, they appeared as a guest on the Bring me the Horizon track, Kingslayer. Before her musical career, Suzuka was a child model from the age of three and attended the Actor’s School Hiroshima.

Sandra Oh is a television and film veteran who helped carve the path for other talented Asian actors. Over her illustrious career, her credits include Grey’s Anatomy, Killing Eve, The Chair, and The Princess Diaries. She also won awards for many of these, with two Golden Globes, fours Screen Actors Guild awards, and 12 Primetime Emmys. The latter makes her the most nominated Asian actor in Emmy history. Plus, in 2019, she became the first Asian person to host the Golden Globes. All this success means she’s now in a position to fight for better, authentic, and more culturally fleshed-out Asian roles, not just for herself but for others. She also joined the Stop Asian Hate protests following the horrific mass shooting in Atlanta.

Dinara Saduakassova

Dinara Saduakassova may not be the most famous woman on the sexiest Asian women list, but the Kazakhstani national is a chess queen. She won the world championships four times and became Asian Women Champion in 2019. Additionally, she holds the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) titles of International Master (IM) and Woman Grandmaster (WGM). Sharing her love of the game, she opened a chess academy in Kazakhstan to teach and mentor more than 200 kids. Outside the world of chess, she’s also the National Ambassador for the United Nations Children’s Fund in Kazakhstan.

Going by her stage name, CL, Lee Chae-rin is a K-Pop rapper from South Korea. She’s a member of the band 2NE1, one of the best-selling girl bands. Then, she made her debut television performance in Queen of the Game, followed by Brain and Standby. In 2015 she broke into Hollywood with Avengers: Age of Ultron, playing Dr. Helen Cho. She also appeared in Marco Polo, The Dark Tower, and as Nagini in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Finally, Claudio was the first Korean to attend the Women in Film Gala, advocating for gender equality in the entertainment industry.

Jamie Chung

Jamie Chung’s career began in 2004 on the MTV reality series The Real World: San Diego. She successfully transitioned to a diverse acting resume, with appearances in Sucker Punch, Premium Rush, Once Upon a Time, Big Hero 6, and Lovecraft Country. Away from acting, she also has a fashion blog called What the Chung?. After welcoming twins via surrogate, Jamie suffered post-partum depression. Seeking therapy and talking openly about such a traditionally taboo and misunderstood topic helped her cope and create a support system. Charlotte Nicdao

Described as a passive-aggressive sunshine pop fairy, Charlotte Nicdao is a Filipina-Australian actor and musician. She’s trained in classic and jazz music and released a 2015 EP called Charlotte Nicdao and the Sloth Orchestra. When it comes to screen time, her credits include A Gurls Wurld, Camp, Please Like Me, and The Strange Chores. However, she’s probably best known for playing Poppy in the Mythic Quest, a gaming comedy created for Apple TV+.

Watching Dwayne Johnson stunt and smolder on the big screen, after years of grueling careers in football and professional wrestling, one might be tempted to think that the man known in the WWE as The Rock is indestructible. But Johnson has actually had to deal with a number of injuries over the years that could have threatened his current pursuits. The athlete-turned-actor recently opened up about some major injuries he’s suffered, as well as overcoming them to find “greatness,” as he prepares to make his debut in the DC Universe as the star of Black Adam.

While Dwayne Johnson challenged himself in regards to his training for Black Adam, which also included some demanding non-physical tasks like spending 10 hours inside “The Egg.” In an interview with Men’s Journal, he revealed a number of painful-sounding injuries and surgeries, as well as what he still struggles with:

The star certainly seems to be an image of greatness. Knowing the injuries he’s had to work through — multiple knee surgeries, a torn Achilles, a torn quad and more — makes it even more impressive that he’s had such a physically demanding career for so long. The fact that he’s still ramping up his training proves that he really has been smart about what his body needs and can handle over the years.

Also, knowing that the Jungle Cruise actor still has to fight through fatigue and push through when he doesn’t feel like getting it on at the gym brings him back down to a human level in a surprising way. Dwayne Johnson said being able to overcome those mental struggles is part of what’s turned him into his best self. Those are pretty inspiring words, even to mere mortals like me, who will never smolder like Jumanji’s Dr. Bravestone.

Dwayne Johnson is ready to take the DC Universe by storm, as he will star in two upcoming DC movies this year. Spider-Man Is Number One Again At The Box Office As No Way Home Hits Another Big Milestone

Last weekend, Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: No Way Home took a little vacation from the top spot at the box office. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s Scream had a better-than-expected debut, enticing audiences with the mystery surrounding the identity of the new Ghostface, and its success pushed the Marvel blockbuster into second place. One week later, however, it’s a case of sixth verse, same as the first, as the web-slinging wall-crawler from Queens New York is now back at Number One.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Is Now The Sixth Biggest Movie Of All Time Worldwide

Spider-Man: No Way Home spent its first few weeks in theaters as an unmatched box office draw, and Scream obviously changed the landscape with its arrival, but it continues to be rather staggering just how many tickets the film is selling. This is true not only looking at its performance domestically, the blockbuster now ranked as the fourth biggest hit of all time (not accounting for inflation), but around the world.

Thanks to the money that came in this past weekend from markets around the globe, Spider-Man: No Way Home is now officially the sixth highest movie ever. To date the Marvel Cinematic Universe feature has made $721,010,988, which is just about $21 million more than what Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World was able to make during its theatrical run in 2015.

In order to take over fifth place – which is presently Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War – it would still need to make $357.2 million, and it can’t be said that the likelihood of that happening is very high. That being said, if audiences continue to go see it instead of anything else playing in theaters, it stands to still make a lot more money before it’s done being a title on marquees everywhere.

Could Spider-Man: No Way Home get to a point where it is threatening the third place positioning of James Cameron’s Avatar on the all-time domestic chart? That seems much more possible. According to The Numbers, the Marvel movie only needs to make $39.5 million more to reach that benchmark, and that would see it join J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.7 million) and Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Endgame ($858.4 million) as a significant part of cinema history.

To briefly look ahead to what’s coming out this week, it certainly looks like Spider-Man: No Way Home is going to be the number one movie again come next Sunday – the question will be just what kind of percentage drop it experiences.

Scream Has To Settle For Second Place After It’s Awesome Debut

As noted, Scream had a killer opening weekend in the last Friday-to-Sunday, having made about $10 million more than what prognosticators predicted in week prior – but it can’t honestly be said that it had a great sophomore experience. After having made more than $30 million in its first three days, the horror film experienced a 59 percent drop and only added $12.4 million to its total. To look on the bright side, that brings its domestic total thus far just over $50 million, and does successfully solidify its hold on the title as the highest grossing 2022 movie to date.

The percentage drop experienced by Scream is reminiscent of what a number of the hybrid release films did in 2021 (which is to say the features that debuted simultaneously in theaters and on digital platforms). The horror sequel isn’t streaming, however, so what’s up?

Last week I hypothesized that the surprise success of Scream was in part driven by the spoiler factor and fans not wanting to learn the identity of Ghostface before seeing the film for themselves – but now I wonder if that particular fear of missing out resulted in the movie having a front-loaded debut. The majority of people who really cared about seeing it decided to see it immediately, and those that made the decision to wait have stuck to that position. The movie didn’t perform badly in its second week, but there is now reason to question the potential of its legs.

New Releases Redeeming Love And The King’s Daughter Fail To Make Much Of An Impact

Obviously a key thing that’s helping Spider-Man: No Way Home and Scream remain dominant titles right now is the fact that the major studios are holding off on releasing star-studded features and IP projects. The biggest new releases this past weekend were D.J. Caruso’s faith-based romance Redeeming Love and Sean McNamara’s fantasy adventure The King’s Daughter, and neither film succeeded in making a significant impression.

Redeeming Love played in over 1,900 theaters domestically this weekend and per location barely made more than Garth Jennings’ Sing 2, which is now in its fifth week of release. The film successfully made it into the box office Top 5, but it’s hard to imagine its stay there will be long, particularly because it’s not exactly garnering much buzz.

The King’s Daughter is a film with a more interesting story at least, as this is a feature that first went into production back in the spring of 2014 and has been sitting on a shelf for half-a-decade. Gravitas Ventures is behind the movie’s distribution, and didn’t do much in the way of marketing and advertising – which explains why it both failed to make over $1 million in its first three days, and why it only managed to make an average of $346 per theater. Given the drudging that the film got from critics, it doesn’t seem like its going to go down in history as a highlight in the respective careers of stars Pierce Brosnan and William Hurt, among others.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that February 2022 is a much better month for the film industry, as January will be coming to a close with a whimper instead of a bang. There won’t be any new wide releases hitting theaters this Friday, and it’s hard to imagine that will have healthy results for the box office.
