Why Michael Weatherly Could Be Returning To NCIS
Given the fact that “NCIS” has lasted for an impressive 19 seasons and nearly two decades, it makes sense that a few beloved characters have parted ways with the show over its long tenure on primetime television. Most recently, fans had to bid farewell to the show’s main character, NCIS Supervisory Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, portrayed by Mark Harmon. In October 2021, during an episode in the show’s 19th season, Gibbs decided to stay in Alaska after finally finding peace following the death of his family, per USA Today.
Over the years, “NCIS” has managed to survive after losing some of its most beloved characters, like Ziva David (portrayed by Cote de Pablo), Tony DiNozzo (portrayed by Michael Weatherly), and Abby Sciuto (portrayed by Pauley Perrette). As ScreenRant reported, the ratings for the show took a nosedive after each of these departures. What’s more, other shows that said goodbye to their main characters, like “The Office” and “The Walking Dead,” only survived a few more seasons before ending for good.
It might be startling for some to realize that all of the cast members who started out in the first season of the show have either left or had their roles greatly reduced since the 2003 premiere, according to Showbiz CheatSheet. However, that might be about to change.

The NCIS cast and crew are back on set and making new episodes after a brief production pause. TV’s most-watched drama will also be back on CBS with an all-new episode on Monday, January 17. And star Brian Dietzen (Jimmy Palmer) has confirmed that one fan-favorite will return sooner rather than later.
‘NCIS’ paused production after a positive COVID test
Production for NCIS season 19 was put on hold in early January after someone in “Zone A” on set tested positive for COVID. Zone A reportedly includes the regular cast and the crew members who work with them regularly.
As of January 14, production has resumed on a number of shows that film in Los Angeles, per The Hollywood Reporter. Included on the list of resumed productions is NCIS and its spinoff NCIS: Los Angeles.
Episode 11 will be titled ‘All Hands’
The next new episode of NCIS is Season 19, Episode 11, “All Hands.” And it’s scheduled to air on CBS on Monday, January 17. The promo for the episode shows the team caught up in a surprise ambush. In the middle of a full-on shootout, it’s revealed that the other side are people who are pretending to be in the Navy.
At the end of the 20-second clip, Agent Parker (Gary Cole) declares that “this whole thing was a set up.” It’s also been revealed that fans will learn more about Katrina Law’s character Jessica Knight and her extended family away from her job via a side plot.
‘NCIS’ star Brian Dietzen confirms the return of a fan favorite
David McCallum has starred as Dr. Ducky Mallard on NCIS since the series premiered back in 2003. But five years ago, the 88-year-old opted to reduce his role on the series. And, his character retired as the medical examiner. Now, Ducky is the NCIS historian. And the character only appears in a handful of episodes each season.
When will McCallum return? According to Brian Dietzen, his co-star will be back for episode 11 “All Hands.” Production has been very careful about McCallum’s health during the pandemic, so his appearances have been pretty rare in recent seasons.
Brian Dietzen wrote an upcoming episode
Fans will soon get the chance to see an episode written by Dietzen. The long-time series regular has played medical examiner Jimmy Palmer since season 1. But this is the first time the actor is getting a writing credit on the series.
When Dietzen shared the news on Instagram, he didn’t reveal the title of the episode he wrote. But the photo he posted featured his script that was marked with episode number “1913.” This translates to Season 19, Episode 13, which gives it a likely air date of late January or early February.
Dietzen also revealed that the episode he wrote will feature the return of Meredith Eaton as immunologist Carol Wilson. She previously appeared in three episodes, with her introduction to the team via Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette) happening way back in the season 7 episode “Faith.” The last time fans saw her was in season 11’s “Homesick.”
A crossover with ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ is coming soon
When NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i returned to CBS after their winter break, the stars of both shows announced on social media that a crossover event was coming soon. Law and Wilmer Valderrama (Nick Torres) revealed that they would both be heading to Hawaii to shoot the special episode.
“It’s going to be good being back on the island solving crimes,” Law — who played Quinn Liu on Hawaii Five-0 — told the camera.
NCIS: Hawai’i star Vanessa Lachey (Jane Tennant) revealed that the special crossover event is scheduled to air on CBS on Monday, March 28.
NCIS airs Monday nights on CBS.

Alden Parker (played by Gary Cole) has been seen as a breath of fresh air in the NCIS universe after joining the CBS series following the departure of long-serving stalwart, Agent Gibbs (Mark Harmon). Parker has quickly endeared himself to the NCIS fandom and put any question marks about his arrival to bed as he’s struck up close bonds with the likes of Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) and Jessica Knight (Katrina Law).
However, in season 19, episode 11, which airs on CBS on Monday, it looks like Parker will come clean about his reservations regarding his place in NCIS. In a sneak peek released by CBS, Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) calls Parker into his office to see how he’s finding it as head of the team in Gibbs’ absence. Armed with a box of doughnuts, Parker says to his boss: “I’m pretty sure you didn’t call me up here for empty calories, Director.” “Relax, Agent Parker,” Vance says as he takes his seat. “This is not a formal meeting.” READ MORE: NCIS LA: Will Kensi Blye die? Was it the right move?” Vance asks to which Parker appears to do his best to brush away the question. “It’s your agency, you tell me,” Parker replies but Vance doesn’t let him get out of it that easy as he hits back: “I wanna hear what you think.” Unconvincingly, Parker holds his hands out and answers: “Well, this place has been amazing.”

Parker tries his best to clarify as he goes on: “It’s like dating. So could this be Parker’s way of letting Vance know he’s struggling to settle into the squad?

Betty White 100th birthday: Beloved star’s only feud
]
Betty White was 99 when she passed away on New Year’s Eve. It was made all the more heartbreaking as she was preparing to celebrate her 100th birthday (January 17). Just days before her death, on December 28, White wrote on Twitter: “My 100th birthday… I cannot believe it is coming up, and People Magazine is celebrating with me!” Sadly, this would be her last Tweet, though it represents the uplifting spirit that her followers loved until the very end. Hours after her passing, Ryan Reynolds wrote: “The world looks different now. She was great at defying expectation. She managed to grow very old and somehow, not old enough. We’ll miss you, Betty. Now you know the secret.” Their unlikely friendship sparked back in 2009 when they shared the screen for the rom-com The Proposal. Yet, not all of White’s co-stars took to her so fondly, with the late actress admitting that one colleague thought “if I was happy, she’d be furious.” And, as any fans will know, White was happy most of the time.
There are few American actresses as iconic as Betty White. Kicking off her career in the late-1940s, she appeared in over 120 projects across seven decades. Some career highlights include Date with the Angels, The Love Boat, The Golden Palace, Toy Story 4, You Again, and of course, The Betty White Show. Yet, there was one series that defined her career – The Golden Girls. Airing from 1985 to 1992, it became the show American households consistently tuned in to. Following four previously married women living together in Miami, it was a heartwarming story of friendship and love despite hard times. Starring White as Rose Nulund, Bea Arthur as Dorothy Zbornak, Rue McClanahan as Blanche Devereaux, and Estelle Getty as Sophia Petrilo, the four stars were known for having infectious onscreen chemistry. This didn’t continue off-screen though for two of them, with Arthur reportedly disliking certain things about White intensely. The star passed away in 2009 due to lung cancer, leading to White finally opening up about their off-screen feud. Reports of their rivalry originally sprang up when McClanahan released her memoir, My First Five Husbands and the Ones Who Got Away: A Memoir, hinting at a rocky relationship between takes. One shocking remark from the book came during a story when McClanagan introduced her husband to Arthur, with the latter saying: “Rue I like, Betty’s a c***.” The comment was the last thing fans expected to hear from Arthur, leading to many wanting White to address the situation. Finally, she did in an interview with The Village Voice, saying: “She found me a pain in the neck sometimes. It was my positive attitude- and that made Bea angry sometimes. Sometimes if I was happy, she’d be furious.”
Years later, the situation was addressed again by Arthur’s son Matthew Saks during an interview with Closer Weekly. Saks said: “My mom unknowingly carried the attitude that it was fun to have somebody to be angry at. It was almost like Betty became her nemesis, someone she could always roll her eyes about at work.” These comments gave followers the context they needed, as many could relate to having a workplace rivalry. It appears the relationship between the two icons wasn’t as dire as it first appeared, with the two sharing a ride to work together frequently. McClanahan even revealed that Arthur wouldn’t go on lunch unless White was there as well. Saks offered his opinion on why the rivalry started in the first place, adding: “Sometimes Betty would go out and smile and chat with the audience and literally go and make friends with the audience. Which is a nice thing—a lot of them have come from all over the country and are fans. I think my mom didn’t dig that. It’s more about being focused or conserving your energy. It’s just not the right time to talk to fans between takes. Betty was able to do it and it didn’t seem to affect her. But it rubbed my mom the wrong way.” (via The Hollywood Reporter) DON’T MISS…

Sadly, the two never made amends, with both going their separate ways after The Golden Girls came to an end. White had a comeback after appearing in The Proposal alongside Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, leading to cameos in comedy hits such as 30 Rock and Community. Arthur also went down the comedy route, starring in shows such as Dave’s World and Beggars and Choosers. She later made a cameo appearance in Malcolm in the Middle, along with voicing Femputer in Futurama. Her last performance was as Larry’s Mother in Curb Your Enthusiasm. As for White, in 2010 she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Screen Actors Guild. Bullock introduced her, saying: “A lot of people really find Betty White inspiring, she’s been working as an actor, in an industry for more than six decades, in a business that doesn’t exactly value getting older. There’s a lot to admire.”
She jokingly added: “Me, I find Betty White annoying. I’m sorry, it’s true. Betty, you make me feel bad about myself. You make me feel like a slacker.” After she finished her speech, White delivered a retort that defined her personality and career, saying: “Oh my dears, I can’t. And, the fact that this lovely lady, she is such a wonderful one and with all the wonderful things that have happened to her.” White then grabbed Bullock’s hand, adding: “Isn’t it heartening to see how far a girl as plain as she is can go?”
