Tim Allen Is Shockingly Returning to His Most Famous Role
]
Remember when Tim Allen killed Santa Claus on Christmas Eve when he scared the jolly man who was on the roof delivering presents in The Santa Clause? It was a strange start to a kid movie, for Santa to essentially die, with the movie following a reluctant man forced to take over Santa’s duties thanks to a binding legal clause.

But the plot worked – the movie was wildly successful. Two movies followed the 1994 original The Santa Clause. And people haven’t had enough it seems. Disney announced Tim Allen is returning to the role in a new series.
According to a press release, Tim is set to return to his role as Scott Calvin and proxy-Santa, as well as executive-produce, in an original limited series. The Santa Clause (a working title) will pick up several years after the final movie.
Calvin is “on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole,” the press release says.

“With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.”
According to IMDb, the 1994 The Santa Clause grossed $190,539,357 worldwide. Two more sequels followed: The Santa Clause 2 in 2002 and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause in 2006. They were super successful, too, with the second earning $172,855,065 worldwide, and the third grossing $110,768,122.
Those are big numbers, so it’s not exactly a surprise that Disney would want to see if they could hit gold for a fourth time, with a TV series this time. Production on the new original series is scheduled to begin in March, so there’s a chance it’ll be ready in time for the 2022 holidays.
Tim Allen Will Reprise His ‘Santa Clause’ Role in Limited Series on Disney Plus
]
Christmas came early in 2022! Tim Allen is set to reprise his role as Scott Calvin from The Santa Clause for a new Disney+ Original limited series.
The 68-year-old actor will also serve as an executive producer for the project currently using the working title The Santa Clause. According to the streaming giant, production is slated to start in March in L.A.. Jack Burditt (30 Rock, Modern Family, Frasier, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) is the showrunner and he’ll also executive produce. Kevin Hench (Last Man Standing), Richard Baker and Rick Messina are also on board as executive producers.
Allen, who told ET back in 1994 that transforming into Santa Claus was not an easy process, appeared in all three films of The Santa Clause franchise, a box office behemoth for Walt Disney Pictures. The first film, an annual staple on TV sets across the country during the holidays, was released in 1994. Allen’s role as Scott Calvin saw him as a divorced father trying to make Christmas special for his son. The inadvertent answer? He transforms into Santa after catching Santa on the roof and scaring him to fall off.
The film has a heartwarming ending, but it wasn’t initially intended that way. Allen revealed in 2018, during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, that the script was originally much darker.
“The original Santa Clause is a little darker, written by two comedians, and I actually shot and killed Santa, in the original movie,” he said. “And he fell off the roof, because I thought he was a burglar. And he gives me the card, and the whole movie starts. And the kid goes, ‘You just killed Santa.’ And I said, ‘He shouldn’t have been on the roof when he wasn’t invited.’”

The news of the upcoming series comes just two months after Allen channeled his Santa Clause character back in November. He had tweeted a selfie showing him sporting a thick natural beard.
It’s unclear if the photo was a flashback pic or if he grew it in quick fashion, given how less than a month before posting that selfie on Twitter he was seen clean shaven in a photo with his Home Improvement co-star, Richard Karn, as they filmed their new reality series, Assembly Required.
Either way, the beard’s coming back!

Disney Plus is rebooting The Santa Clause, and Tim Allen has signed on to play Santa once again.
The 1994 hit movie spawned two big-screen sequels, in 2002 and 2006, and now Disney is turning it into a TV series for the streaming platform. Disney has a huge back catalogue to mine for reboots, from its live action remakes of animated classics to straight-to-streaming rehashes like Home Sweet Home Alone this past Christmas.
In the movies, Allen’s character Scott Calvin was a normal guy and harassed dad who stepped into the big red suit when Kris Kringle fell off his roof and apparently died (did anyone else think the movie kinda glossed over that macabre detail?). In the new series, an aging Calvin sets out to find a replacement Santa.
The showrunner is Jack Burditt, whose past credits include 30 Rock, Modern Family, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Frasier (which is also set to be rebooted soon). The series films in March, so there’s a chance it’ll be on our screens this coming Christmas.
