Who’s hosting Saturday Night Live tonight, January 22?
]
Saturday Night Live returns tonight with another brand new episode. So who will fans see take the stage as SNL season 47’s latest host?
So far, the season has been dominated by first-timers. Starting with Owen Wilson and most recently Ariana DeBose, nearly every episode has been hosted by an SNL rookie. Only Paul Rudd entered Studio 8H with prior hosting experience.
Fans will see that trend continue on Saturday. Will Forte will host Saturday Night Live for the first time. He’ll be joined by musical guest Måneskin.
Of course, Forte is very familiar with Saturday Night Live. He was a cast member for eight years, providing SNL with a George W. Bush impression along with absurd characters like the Falconer, Tim Calhoun, and of course, MacGruber.
What to expect from Will Forte on Saturday Night Live
Saturday Night Live fans should expect Will Forte to bring some of that absurd, bizarre comedy that became his calling card back to the show tonight. It’s hard to imagine Forte doing anything other than the so-called “10-to-1” sketches he delivered year after year.
He comes to SNL to promote MacGruber, the Peacock series based on his famous character that also received a film treatment. It feels like a new MacGruber sketch tonight is a no-brainer. The only question is whether or not his co-stars Kristen Wiig and Ryan Phillippe could make a cameo.
Speaking of cameos, they are always a possibility when a former cast member returns to host. Fred Armisen popped up earlier this season when Jason Sudeikis made his triumphant return. So besides Wiig, there stands a chance that someone like Seth Meyers could assist Forte.
Saturday Night Live airs tonight at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC. The show will also stream live on Peacock.

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe’s daughter, Ava Phillippe, has said she will block people sending her “bigoted” comments on Instagram, which happened after she discussed her sexuality in an Instagram Q&A.
The 22-year-old opened up about her sexuality recently but took to the social media platform last Wednesday (12 January) to warn people she wouldn’t accept hateful comments.
Asked by a follower in the Q&A “do you like boys or girls?” Ava answered, “I’m attracted to… people! (Gender is whatever),” according to reports.
“My Instagram profile is not a place for cruelty/hate speech”
In her Instagram story on Wednesday, as captured by the Daily Mail, Ava said: “QUICK REMINDER: I can & will block profiles commenting bigoted/hateful messages under my posts. My Instagram profile is not a place for cruelty/hate speech & I intend to do what I can to keep it that way. Peace & Love.”

Ava is the oldest of two children shared by Witherspoon and actor Ryan Phillippe, who also parent 18-year-old son Deacon.
Reese Witherspoon recently discussed how she wasn’t taught about homosexuality as a child, and first encountered things when she moved to Hollywood.

In a conversation with her Legally Blonde 2 co-star, Regina King, for Variety, Reese said: " No one spoke to me about sexuality when I was a teenager. I didn’t understand what homosexuality was. My grandparents didn’t explain it; my parents didn’t explain it.
“I had to learn from somebody I met on an audition in Los Angeles.”

It’s the viral phenomenon that gets picked apart on social media, where you throw out random words and see what gets a response — but first, the “Saturday Night Live” opening sketch.
This weekend’s broadcast, hosted by the “S.N.L.” alumnus Will Forte and featuring the musical guest Måneskin, began with a parody of the Fox News program “The Ingraham Angle,” with Kate McKinnon as its host, Laura Ingraham.
She lamented the first year of the Biden administration, which she said had been a disaster, citing rising inflation, high gas prices and the green M&M’s getting canceled. She added that the nation “is still mourning from the sudden loss of America’s dad, Robert Durst.”
‘SNL’ jokes about Sen. Kyrsten Sinema for the second week in a row. Is Arizona laughing?
]
Aidy Bryant isn’t the only person from Arizona who keeps showing up on “Saturday Night Live.”
True, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema isn’t a cast member. She’s not the one making jokes, but the one they’re making jokes about. Saturday’s show made two weeks in a row. And this time, the jokes were actually pretty funny.
They weren’t the only Arizona-related jokes Saturday. Jake Angeli, known as the QAnon Shaman, was also the butt of a joke.
Sinema has become a reliable source of ridicule. On the Jan. 15 show it was the cold open, in which James Austin Johnson, playing President Joe Biden, compared her to a Spider-Man villain. Saturday, it was the “Weekend Update” segment.
Che made Sinema jokes during the ‘Weekend Update’ segment
Michael Che, co-host with Colin Jost of the news parody, made his first joke of the segment about Sinema.
“Senate Republicans lined up to shake Kyrsten Sinema’s hand after she voted against changing the filibuster to pass voting rights,” Che said. “Ah, the U.S. Senate, keeping Black folks down with a quiet handshake since 1787.”
Dang.
Che followed with this:
“Sen. Bernie Sanders suggested that he supports replacing fellow Democrats Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. Damn, Bernie, stabbing your own co-workers in the back? That’s unforgivable. I would never suggest Colin should be fired, no matter how much better I think (cast member) Bowen (Yang) would be.”
Sinema is not leaving the headlines anytime soon. Saturday morning members of the Arizona Democratic Party’s executive committee passed a resolution to censure Sinema over the filibuster vote.
No joke there.
Later on the show former cast member Will Forte, who hosted (Maneskin was the musical guest), made the shaman joke. The show relentlessly plugged “MacGruber,” a comedy on NBC’s streaming service Peacock, in which Forte plays the title character, based on an old “SNL” sketch. The running joke was that he’s fallen into a right-wing conspiracy rabbit hole.
Will Forte turned MacGruber into QAnon shaman
During the last “MacGruber” sketch, in which he once again unsuccessfully tried to defuse a bomb, Forte’s MacGruber was dressed like Angeli in his full-on shaman regalia, horned hat and all. As Kristen Wiig and Ryan Phillippe urge him to get to work on the bomb, Forte goes off on all sorts of right-wing talking points.
“Look, I’m just a shaman,” he said. “All I can do is pray for you, take up arms against you and keep the oath I took to protect this country, because I am an Oath Keeper, and boy I’m proud of that, which I guess makes me a Proud Boy.”
Sigh. They’re never going to stop making fun of Arizona, are they? No one is.
As for Sinema, what’s next on “SNL?” Cold open, “Weekend Update” — unless there’s an entire sketch about her, they’re running out of ways to make fun of her.
Or are they? Next week Willem Defoe is scheduled to host, with Katy Perry as the scheduled musical guest. Maybe they can work her into Defoe’s monologue or one of Perry’s performances for the hat trick.

Near the end of this week’s Saturday Night Live hosted by former cast member Will Forte, the show took a moment to recognize another past member of the SNL family, Emmy-winning writer John Bowman, who died last month.
Just before the show cut to goodnights, a tribute card appeared for Bowman, who died suddenly at home on Dec. 28 at age 64. Bowman was a writer on the NBC sketch show during season 14 (1988-1989), and was part of the team who took home the Emmy Award in 1989 for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, sharing the win with show creator Lorne Michaels, Phil Hartman, Mike Myers, Conan O’Brien, Bob Odenkirk, and more.

After leaving SNL, Bowman joined the writing staff on Fox sketch-comedy show In Living Color, created by Keenen Ivory Wayans and Damon Wayans. For his work there, he earned two more Emmy nominations in 1991 and 1992, losing both times to the Oscars broadcast.
He went on to co-create the sitcom Martin, with star Martin Lawrence and Topper Carew.
“The language on this show is more uncompromisingly Black than it is on any other show,” Bowman told EW in 1992 of Martin. “But you find yourself in the most absurd discussions with censors. I think we’re all frustrated.”
He also co-created sketch comedy shows Cedric the Entertainer Presents and Frank TV, and had writing credits on Murphy Brown, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, and The Hughleys.
Bowman was elected to three terms as a member of the WGA Board of Directors and led the WGA’s negotiating committee during the 2007-08 writers strike.
Saturday’s Forte-fronted SNL episode featured musical guest Måneskin, and cameos from Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe, and Willem Dafoe, who is set to host next week.
